A deep X-ray/UV look into the reflaring stage of the accreting millisecond pulsar SAX J1808.4-3658
We present a detailed X-ray/UV high-time resolution monitoring of the final reflaring phase of the accreting millisecond pulsar SAX~J1808.4$-$3658. During its 2022 outburst, we obtained simultaneous XMM-Newton and Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations. We detected coherent X-ray pulsations down to a 0.5-10~keV luminosity of $L_{X(low)\,0.5-10} \simeq 6.21^{+0.20}_{-0.15} \times 10^{34} \, d^2_{3.5}\,\mathrm{erg \, s^{-1}}$, among the lowest ever observed in this source. We examine the publication rates of 400 research-focused members in the ASTRO3D Centre of Excellence by gender, project, and year from January 2018 to January 2024 (six years). Of the 443 refereed publications led by ASTRO3D members, women were first-author on 38% which is nearly double that of the astronomy field in the same period (~20%). We estimate the variability of solar and wind energy generation potential in Europe over a 43 year period between 1980-2022 with the MERRA-2 reanalysis datasets. We compare the estimated supply potential to hourly demand data from 36 European countries to calculate the reliability of a highly renewable electricity grid in Europe.
