MLT3 / PAM3 signal generator on the demo board is working great now, I forgot to reset the OSERDESE2 during startup which was screwing up my emphasis.
The top blue waveform is straight off the board and is unrealistically sharp and has just a tiny bit of overshoot on the transition from the -1 to 0 state. The red waveform is after a 180 MHz FIR LPF roughly simulating channel loss and magnetics response. I'll add a discrete SMA LPF to the system for the real demo and it should be go…

i live in a small apartment without a lot of storage space. for LPs, i have two three-foot shelves, one for jazz, the other for everything else. last week, i made a new resolution to play at least one non-jazz record every day. here's how it's going.

Santana's "Welcome" (1973). The cover is minimalist: a cream/off-white background with just the word "Welcome" rendered in elegant gold cursive script running diagonally across the sleeve, no other imagery or text visible on this side. There's some light foxing/age spotting near the top edge, consistent with a vinyl jacket from that era.

The Beatles, "Magical Mystery Tour" — the psychedelic rainbow cover with the band in animal costumes (walrus, bird, and rabbit-eared costumes) surrounded by colorful stars on a starry blue background, "Beatles" in yellow star-lettering above, and hand-lettered song titles arced across the top (The Fool on the Hill, Flying, Blue Jay Way, Your Mother Should Know, I Am the Walrus). A sticker/label notes it includes a 24-page picture book, and track titles (Hello Goodbye, Strawberry Fields Forever,…
The Specials, "More Specials" — bold black-and-white title type over a color photo of the band lounging in armchairs around a low table cluttered with pint glasses, set against a retro wood-paneled/stained-glass backdrop; one member is baring vampire fangs for the camera.

B.B. King, "A Heart Full of Blues" — a well-worn, scuffed cover (lots of surface wear/scratches) showing B.B. King in a mustard-yellow suit and bow tie, smiling, with a tracklist along the left side (You're Gonna Miss Me, Got 'Em Bad, Troubles Don't Last, Your Letter, I Can't Explain, The Wrong Road, I Need You Baby, So Many Days, Down Hearted, Strange Things) and a "Custom Records R&B Series" logo — catalog number CM 2040, monaural.

music lover

Dottie has claimed the stereo stack as her throne, and she's positioned herself right where the audio gear lives. She's perched on top of the Yamaha receiver (mid-song, judging by the "BLUETO..." readout on the display), with her tail curled down in a dramatic white question-mark that dangles in front of the Carver dual cassette deck below. Below that sits a Marantz turntable with a record already queued up, and a Count Basie LP resting nearby — so the whole rig is genuinely in use, not just de…
