I've tried everything and always hit the same wall and the logs don't give me any clues. In the end, I gave up and bought a cheap M2 SSD to usb3 adapter to be able to burn the image directly to the M2 disk.
Anyway, 15 euros is not a big investment and I might need that adapter in the future.

I'll also need to integrate the FT230X chip so sketches can be uploaded, and be able to burn the Atmel chip after it's soldered to the board. We like to go to the beach and lay around when this orb is in the sky. Children draw cute pictures of this levitating death ball with a smiley face on it.
