Good morning! For this #silentSunday I want to share this #foggy path with you.
I was on my way down and when I entered the fog, temperature really dropped. Actually I didn't want to stop or slow down in order to avoid cooling out.
But at this spot I had to take a quick break for…
A plant that looks like a fungus,
lives like a parasite,
and clones itself in the dark
—Balanophora may be one of evolution’s strangest experiments.
At the foot of moss-covered trees in the mountains of Taiwan and mainland Japan,
as well as within the subtropical forests of Okinawa,
an unusual organism emerges from the forest floor.
It is often mistaken for a mushroom,
yet it is actually a rare flowering plant that produces some of the smallest…

Yes. A personal search engine, visualizer, and interface builder.
“look, the way grok is integrated into X is gross and stupid and bad, but i do believe having an LLM familiar help you navigate the dark forest of the internet is going to be the future — ideally this is on your device or through a trusted and secure host, but it will be immensely helpful”
In the end, the Guide concluded that Sol-3 was another datapoint in resolving the Fermi Paradox, revising the Drake Equation L down further.
Ford's notes read "mostly harmless" but Arthur found a Dick's Burgers napkin in a glovebox, with a scribbled note saying "the self-fulfilling DFPC is a particularly nasty bug."
"What's DFPC?", Arthur asked.
"Dark Forest Pareidolaic Collapse", said Zaphod.

What do people think about the "dark forest theory of the internet" ? https://www.ystrickler.com/dftrevisited/
I don't get people with their "Friday evening out" or "night life" ideas. I mean, what's there to live when it's dark outside? You can live when it's daylight and you can go to a forest or something, but when it's dark, all you can do is either work or sleep.

#ThrowbackThursday Platinum printing session at the now defunkt Oregon College of Art and Craft. The pictures are from an unforgettable winter hike in the Eagle Creek valley, just a few days prior (and 6 months before a wild fire consumed the entire valley)...
(Also see my prev. message for my new darkroom setup :)
I really want to be interested in this "dark forest theory of the internet" but just listened to their podcast about the economics of it and they just went on and on about using substack and discord as if that was somehow revelatory? I couldn't get the point of what they were saying at all. Then they talked about how charging for membership of their closed group didn't really make money but helped weed people out, with no consideration that some people don't have spare …
Latest 8x6" toned kallitype print, fresh from the tray (well, from the drying line)... 🤩
(Kallitype is quite challenging in terms of balancing achieving deep blacks vs detail, so this scene took quite some tweaking to retain the details in the band of dark shadowy forest, but I'm happy how it turned out...)

Oh almost missed #MountainMonday !
I was out recently just for a bit of training. Luckily I also packed the camera "just in case ..." and saw this frosty / snowy scene.
For those who cannot walk the mountains and see such scenese themselfes.

Slowly getting into a rhythm to start the day with doing a print each morning, each time still tweaking either negatives, concentrations and/or durations of different processing stages to adjust tones/hues... A new adventure with some back and forth each time!
This print is of Langkofel / Sassolungo, one of my favourite mountain massifs, just such interesting features and so many dear memories, here seen from the east (around half and hour before sunset)...
Hey, this is my last photo from the hike last weekend. I didn't manage to capture the whole Vista so I tried to zoom in on some distant #mountains. In the mid you can see the #jochberg.
Usually you see epic photos from atop this mountain but not from the mountain itself.
And well, …
