I've been messing with wget and HTTrack for archiving web sites... An artist friend of mine passed away last year and I have this fear his web site might disappear some day, and I want a copy of it.
The images are not hosted on his domain though, they are on a SquareSpace domain, but I think I've got HTTrack working to grab them all.
Still need to figure out the exact formula, so it'll take a bit of testing.

I'm looking at a bunch of open clipart icons and some of them have straightforward licenses like CC or public domain.
But others are using more software-oriented licenses like GPL or LGPL. I'm... not entirely sure how that is supposed to work.
If I load a GPL'd icon PNG into my application is that "dynamic linking" in a way that would require my entire application to be GPL? There's no code involved, no symbol manipulation, and the icon isn't compile…

Who do you like for domain name registration that supports giving multiple accounts admin access for the same domain?
I usually use Hover, but I think (?) they’re strictly one domain name = one admin account. And we can just share a password securely between admins, but…I always like to reduce that bus factor when I can!
German ministry renames itself, domain expires, is bought by SEO-spammer, expires again, is bought by domain grabber, then later bought by itsec company who now learns that apparently plenty of internal systems of the ministry still try to connect to the domain...

PSA: Use the "accounturi" feature of Let's Encrypt CAA!
If you're hosting a safety/security-critical service, there's a way too unknown feature called "accounturi", that allows you to restrict TLS certificate issuance to a single Let's Encrypt account (and account private key).
You simply create a CAA record on your domain and put your LE account ID into it.
This means that attackers cannot issue TLS certificates and pull man-in-the-middle…

Very clever of them since I've never had, nor ever will have, a netflix account.
Email comes from a Polish domain, apparently.
OpenAI and Perplexity, armed with significant AI capabilities, have targeted the shopping domain. And have run into many problems around data access and semantics.
This raises three thoughts:
First, companies which are bullish about AI “changing everything”, are stumbling in maybe the most traditional, mundane domain: shopping. This doesn’t inspire confidence in their technology.

Picus Security, an interesting security vendor I only recently became aware of, has a report out on the Fog Ransomware group. An easy protective control to put in place based on this group's TTPs is to block *.netlify.app. This is the domain used by Netlify's free tier apps and is being abused. Note that most legitimate business customers of Netlify will use their own domains to access Netlify apps, so blocking their free tier domain is not likely to impact your users.

I gave a lightning talk about the use of generative #AI at our engineering offsite this week. My general conclusion is that it is useful in some places but where you are a domain expert the gains might not be there. Just before the talk I came across this study:

Before I go writing my own, is anyone aware of a python package for solving employee scheduling type problems? Perhaps backed by Google's OR-Tools?
They have all the math covered, but the interface is a bit unwieldy. So I'd like to use or write something that is written with the domain in mind, not abstract optimization.
