Kodak DC120 (kind of 1MP*, 1997)
*The camera has an extremely odd sensor size of 850x984 (non-square pixels??!), and only RawTherapee (open source photo editing app) opened it up in the full stored resolution of 840x968 (sensors usually have a few more pixels than the highest resolution a camera can store, it's complicated).
I converted to TIFF and stretched in Photoshop to proper aspect ratio; then edited with CameraRaw.

I’m wondering who these “AI” image editing features are for, I mean besides object removal and “make skin look nicer”.
For example “the plebs” don’t know how to frame photos and don’t see they’re bad, so they won’t know that they should be framed differently; but people into photography will frame photos right from the beginning and don’t want to add any generative stuff.

Yes, #Emacs. You can render SVG. Very clever. But I actually want to *edit the text* of the file (you know, in a text editor. Like... oh, $DEITY, never mind).

An Emacs window. You know, Emacs -- the 'Editor Macros' text editor. Editing an SVG file. Except, it isn't. It is very prettily, and accurately, rendering the file. (The file shows a recursively drawn tree, and a recursive spiral).

If I wanted to render the file, I have lots of excellent tools to do that. I WANT AN EXCELLENT TOOL TO EDIT TEXT, and otherwise just stay out of my way!

“In this work, we conduct a large-scale simulation of how users might delegate work to LLMs across 52 professional domains. We find that current LLMs are unreliable delegates: even frontier models corrupt an average of 25% of document content over long workflows, with sparse but severe errors that silently compound over time.”
Good to see the issue addressed explicitly, even though the results aren’t surprising—why would anyone expect LLMs to be reliable!?

Today in unanticipated editing work I had to point out that a transcription of a French-language text was obviously incorrect since, first, it made no grammatical sense and, second, retargeting shit ("remire la merde") doesn't make it worse ("plus ça pire" - see pt 1).
