So far in various testing of my PC/OS setup, it seems that perhaps the oddness of my physical setup is wreaking some mild havoc. You see, living in an RV has made for some interesting hurdles.
1)Tower is in the bedroom as that's the only space I had for it.
2) I have many dongles and a hub, trying to ensure wireless access to the tower, as I am NOT in the bedroom as I type this.
3)Driving 3 screens, two 1080p in the bdr, one 1440p out here. This means long cables. 1/?

It's just wow. And the best part? When I looked at it on the phone, in the bright sunlight outside I've perceived different colors than when I look at it on the TV screen, inside.
[EDIT: Just repeated the experiment. Looked on the phone inside the room first, then went out and look in the sun — and I've perceived different colors. It's worth noting that I have a crappy phone with glossy screen.]

I write regarding the now seemingly popular term "lived experience". I don't mean to be silly or cute, but given the widespread use of the term, I ask: Am I missing something? Are there other forms of experience? Like "UNlived experience"? I just seems to me that in order to experience something, one must be living.

Hey, today is a great day to call your oldest living relative or the relative that knows the most about genealogy to get some information that may not exist for long.
My dad started compiling our family history about a decade ago, and I’m doing a deep read of it now.
I’m mostly German-English-Scots. Scattered great and great-great grandparents named Wilhelm, Adolph, Matilda, Gordon, Donald, James. So fun to learn. And explains all those recipe cards I remember from being a kid at various families’ houses in rural Oregon written in idiomatic German. I saved some, like pfeffernusse, schwarzbrot und weisswurst :)
Whoa. One of my great-great grandparents was from now-Ukraine. Ever hear that there’s rice Europe and potato Europe? If you mashed all the potato Europe, you’d get me :)
Your family won’t be around forever. Ask the questions now.
Side note: there’s a moment in Band Of Brothers where they come across a German soldier with the most ice-pure Oregonian accent who says he had returned to Germany to fight for a pure German bloodline. If that had been real life, that could have been a fourth cousin and it was absolutely chilling to hear. So many twists go into making us all up and I’m quite glad some of my ancestors were too poor to make it in Germany and had to get on a boat.
If you call a family member, tell some stories!!

A bit personal, living in right-wing world and not managing to put your life in order
In a right-wing society, a man's life is expected to follow two main axes (women have it even worse, but I'm going to talk of the gender that I experience first hand):
1. Education − finding a job − gaining experience and promotions − managing to retire.
2. Finding a girlfriend − marriage − having children − rearing children.
Of course, there are other expectations too: buying a car and house, but they can generally be derived from these two axes.
While, technically, the individual elements aren't limited to a specific age, usually you have to deal with them early enough. I suppose many people can confirm that — those who tried to learn a new language, supplement their education, find a better job late in life. But things can get worse.
You could lose your job and discover that our specific experience isn't worth uch. You end up competing for junior positions, with people who are young, healthy and ambitious; with people who don't have all your negative experiences and who can accept a smaller living wage.
You could notice that all your friends have already started their own families, and you didn't have anything even remotely resembling a relationship for over 10 years now; that you find it harder and harder to connect with anyone.
I think that's precisely what being #MADAO is: discovering that you're already (relatively) old and you didn't put your life in order, in time. Add being neuroatypical to that. The awareness that you no longer have the momentum that made it possible for us to overcome difficulties, even if we were only moving through the path of least resistance. Now not only this path is no longer available to us, but also we're being burdened with emotional baggage that makes it almost impossible to move.
And the right-wing society doesn't include a place for people who aren't moving across the only legitimate axis.

I've been reading "On Green” (joecarlsmith.com/2024/03/21/on) and its following article, “On Attunement” with some interest today. I am uninterested in the ways he is focused on “AGI”, but that might actually be part of what he's saying and missing.
They talk about the philosophy of green in the "magic the gathering" sense, which has five core modes of things, and being a game, designed to balance. It's an attractive system and not without merit as a philosophical labeling system. In short: white, moral; blue, knowledge and rationality; red, passion and desire; black, power and achievement. And green. Green is the subject they can't identify clearly.
I don't think they really understand green. (They come from a very rationalist place, and that's not a good mode to understand Green)
Green is the domain of systems thinking and of ecology. It's one of flexible boundaries and hierarchies that vanish when you look at them for long. They talk about philosophical agents and try to fit a green philosophical stance into that framework, but it misses: the very idea of a self is nebulous in a green philosophy. Yes, it obviously exists, we are all separate from each other. But also we are inseparable from each other. Green is a philosophy of relationality and multiple perspectives and ever shifting viewpoints. It's not just yin, passive, permissive, but holistic. It's not that it lets the Other in, it's that it actively is in relation with the Other. The other is the self, the self is the other.
The essays also label green as conservative, and this is not quite true. It is not about being slow or regressive or traditional, but about being whole. They can't quite see that green's willingness to accept death and pain as things that happen and also its strong preservationist stance are not opposed to each other. It seems incoherent, but it's not: death and pain are things that happen to living parts of an ecosystem. They matter, but so too does the whole matter. Where so many blue rationalists see statistical and demographic counts of deaths and "sentient beings harmed”, green sees a whole ecosystem where some of that is deeply natural. It's unnatural, ecosystem-harming deaths that are disasters in the green philosophy. Wholesale extinctions. Protracted, painful deaths, as much for the wound they cause outside the individual as the individual suffering as well. But we all come to an end, and to change that wholesale would end so many kinds of relationship, so many things.
Green revels in the illegible, the incomplete, and the connected. It's easy to be green-blind, to ignore the subtle systemic effects. So many of us want simple cause and effect, rather than action and plurality of reactions.
Green's ability to embrace the illegible lets it deal with Red chaos; its resilience tempers red passion. It can ally with White philosophies into a pastoral, conservative, moralistic framework. It ends up at odds with the rationalist Blue and the power-hungry Black, because they drive disequilibrium, but more than just transition to new stable ecologies, they drive systems permanently out of stability, destroying relationships in their path. When confronted with this, they will deny it because the objects are still there. Preserved. Catalogued. Legible and accounted for. Perhaps used instrumentally. Perhaps wrecked for some "greater purpose” but only acknowledged as objects. The relationships between things remain illegible.

“When Bangladesh’s Minimum Wage Board met in November 2023 to decide wages for garment workers, trade unions called for a monthly Living Wage of 23,000 taka (approx £172), given that the previous wage of 8,000 taka (£60) was a poverty wage that made fruit a luxury item. This summer there will three babies born here, one to a couple living in a shepherd's hut, one to a couple living in an old caravan, one who will be living in a yurt. This is us erecting the yurt.
In much of remote rural Scotland, people of child-bearing age cannot afford homes.

Wall trellis erected. The yurt is being erected on tarpaulins which are covered in carpet which in turn is being covered in linoleum. I am anxious that this will not be sufficient if we have a wet summer, but it's better than nothing.
Frame of the roof erected. This went pretty quickly.
Framework covered with old bedsheets.
Bedsheets covered with insulating felt.

Allowing dignity in death to someone who has lived overseas for some time, but maintained close ties to family in WA is the right choice.
Everyone deserves dignity and respect at end of life.

The Business Secretary was very excited about someone volunteering your Rwanda claiming that it proved all the namby-pamby worrying about strangulated gays in the streets was just imagination.
However, it would be interesting to see the glorious prospectus that convinced this person to take the Golden ticket.
Perhaps it was the houses that had already been sold or the enticement to work for less than the equivalent living wage given they cannot work here.

Reading The Case for Open Borders, which has so many heartbreaking stories of senseless cruelty, and thinking: The ways people justify this are the same ways they justify cruel displacement of homeless people in San Francisco...

In northern Mexico, I interviewed and spent a long afternoon with a man who, after living for almost four decades in Los Angeles, where his whole family still resided, tried crossing the desert to reunite with them after being caught up in an immigration raid. He was caught by the Border Patrol, pushed into the back of a truck ("dog-catchers," they sometimes call them), where, after the truck slipped off the road and flipped, the man broke his back—luckily avoiding serious spinal damage. Border…
