build_ggplot() takes the plot object, and performs all steps necessary to produce an object that can be rendered. This function outputs two pieces: a list of data frames (one for each layer), and a panel object, which contain all information about axis limits, breaks etc. The ggplot_build() function is vestigial and build_ggplot() should be used instead.

Abstract: The primate visual system is typically divided into two streams - the ventral stream, responsible for object recognition, and the dorsal stream, responsible for encoding spatial relations and motion. Recent studies have shown that convolutional neural networks (CNNs) pretrained on object recognition tasks are remarkably effective at predicting neuronal responses in the ventral stream, shedding light on the neural mechanisms underlying object recognition. However, similar models of the dorsal stream remain underdeveloped due to the lack of large scale datasets encompassing dorsal stream areas. To address this gap, we present STSBench, a dataset of large-scale, single neuron recordings from over 2,000 neurons in the superior temporal sulcus (STS), a nearly 50-fold increase over existing dorsal stream datasets, collected while Rhesus macaques viewed thousands of unique, natural videos. We show that our dataset can be used for benchmarking encoding models of dorsal stream neuronal responses and reconstructing visual input from neural activity.

But luckily, we studied this at least for two corpora with German users (and admittedly only for face emojis). So: Many object or symbol emojis (from the "tail end" of the emoji list) are very, very rarely used. Overall, faces and hearts are the most frequent. Among the face emojis, we compiled the full list of usages from a huge Twitter corpus (semi-public communication, 2014-2022) and a much small WhatsApp chat corpus (private or group communication). You can find the frequencies in this table linked below (and sort by frequency by clicking on the column). The least frequent face emoji in the large corpus was the "frowning face with open mouth" 😦, which most people have never seen before. Abstract: Broken Object-Level Authorization (BOLA), also known as Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR), has topped the OWASP API Security ranking since 2019 and is the root cause of some of the largest exposures of applicant data in recruitment technology. The defining feature of this flaw class is that a malicious request is byte-for-byte indistinguishable from a legitimate one, which is precisely why web application firewalls and single identity scanners fail to catch it. We present AuthProbe, an open-source, black-box scanner that detects BOLA and IDOR in HTTP APIs by driving its tests from an OpenAPI specification and by acting under two or more identities that the operator controls. AuthProbe discovers, for each identity, the objects that identity legitimately owns, then attempts to read one identity's objects while authenticated as another and confirms a leak by comparing the response against a ground-truth fetch by the true owner. It also walks predictable identifiers to expose enumeration and reports missing authentication and existence oracles. The tool returns a severity-thresholded exit code and machine-readable reports so that it can gate a continuous integration build. On a synthetic recruitment API in which the McHire failure class is reproduced, AuthProbe detects every planted cross-identity read with no false positives on a hardened counterpart, and its running time grows linearly with the number of objects under test. AuthProbe is released under the Apache 2.0 license with an authorized-use guardrail.

Abstract: The microlensing optical depth towards the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), $\tau_{\rm LMC}$, bounds the compact-object fraction of the Galactic dark matter halo, but is almost always evaluated for a spherical halo. We compute it for triaxial haloes and show that the shape dependence is carried entirely by the projection of the line of sight onto the halo principal axes: for a scale-free halo $\rho\propto R^{-\alpha}$ at fixed local density it factorises exactly as $\tau/\tau_{\rm sph}=S_\odot^{\alpha}\langle S^{-\alpha}\rangle_w$, with $S(\Omega)$ the ellipsoidal shape function. The LMC lies only $0\fdg78$ from perpendicular to the Sun-Galactic Centre line, making it a near-optimal probe of in-plane elongation and a poor probe of vertical flattening. For the halo shapes favoured by \textit{Gaia} we find $\tau_{\rm LMC}/\tau_{\rm sph}=0.95$--$1.15$ at fixed local density, $1.57$ for the Law-Majewski logarithmic potential, and $0.67$--$1.54$ when the major-axis azimuth is left free. For the Einasto halo required by the declining \textit{Gaia} DR3 rotation curve, truncation near $25\kpc$ is offset by the larger local density it implies and $\tau$ falls by only $7$--$15$ per cent; but the median lens distance moves inwards from $13.4$ to $8.5\kpc$, where the logarithmic slope is steep and rising, amplifying the shape sensitivity: the \textit{Gaia} RR~Lyrae enhancement grows from $15$ to $23$ per cent and the orientation-free range widens to $0.62$--$1.62$. The systematic on the inferred MACHO or primordial-black-hole fraction is two-sided, of order $\pm15$ per cent for the measured shapes and a factor $2.6$ under full orientation freedom, exceeding the statistical errors of the EROS-2 and OGLE bounds.

There are some rumors on the web that coding agents scraped the website of the #ICM to find the Fields Medallist's names, which of course were already in the source code.
This reminded my of 12 years ago when I accidentally ran into a live version of the celebratory videos that were put up openly on the Internet for a couple of minutes. I managed to screenshot 3 out of 4 and posted them on Google and then one senior and famous mathematician got very angry at me.

Good list, but almost none of these people are going to be pitching to the BBC. They're mostly writers, not production studios. Maybe BBC Studios will recruit them as writers after it wins, or some other studio could even recruit them as part of their pitch, but these people aren't going to be pitching this year because they don't have production studios. 🤷‍♀
