I need an outside compost thingy for food scraps and dog poop and I live in the desert (up to 115F in summer). Looking for recommendations. Not too big and must be able to contain smell.

I’d forgotten how bad they smell, full of wet gunk under standing water lol. And was kind of surprised how much debris had accumulated since I did this last year. (No earthworms this time! Not yet!)
I also trimmed back any oleander branches overhanging the roof and cleaned the stuff fallen on the roof that was just waiting to clog the gutters again.
As the final step I blast a stream of water down along their length, a final clean, and they shine. Just for a little while. But I know they’re clean.

I was listening to the podcast “You’re Wrong About” when host Sarah Marshall asked (joking) if any of her older listeners remembered what men’s cologne smelled like in the 1960s. This brought back a visceral olfactory memory — in the 1960s and early 70s, all adult males smelled like tobacco. Most smoked, and the ones who didn’t hung around others who did. My dad smoked in our house, sending us kids scattering to get away from the smell. I had forgotten how omnipresent that stench was.
