I kinda hate how much my previous experiences have changed the way I behave.
Sometimes I think of a legit question to a post but can't write it in a way that doesn't seem contradictory to the post, so I just won't reply.
This is because many previous experiences tell me that replying in a way that seems even remotely contradictory, will get me nothing but insults and no actual answer to the question.
Also the fact that I've been blocked many times before (including by Fedi admins) without warning or discussion, leaves me thinking "is this something someone might have blocked me for in the past? And should I post it?" 🤦‍♂️
The amount of people who are hostile to simple replies is too damn high...😩

Some birds are more ungainly than beautiful, like this pileated woodpecker who is certainly striking (literally and metaphorically). It was demolishing my bird pie the other day, when normally it will be destroying the trunks of half dead trees, looking for insects and other delicious edibles. in the post you see one doing just that and finally the results of his labours on the tree.

Any popular post I have on here has replies that show that absolutely no one reads the other replies (or worse, they never see them).
Mastodon's ability to function as a social network with people being able to interact is fundamentally broken because of this.
I hope the project leadership recognizes this and will fix it some day.

#Arbeit (bzw. die #Faulheit der jüngeren Generation und anderer Gesellschaftsschichten) ist mal wieder ein Thema. Dass "die Jungen" faul und ungezogen seien ist seit Jahrhunderten ein Dauerbrenner.

At @… we have a list of things we have but don't constantly use that other orgs/groups can borrow from/in our studios in Penryn and Sheffield. Folks rarely take us up on it but here it is. There must be so much underused and dusty equipment in the world.

One nice thing about research 'impact' I picked up recently is that it's not something ever that researchers can do, it's something that other people do with your research. If a researcher talks about creating or doing impact, or impacting 'the public' they've got the wrong end of the stick. All they can do is create conditions in which other people are more likely to do something useful/interesting with their work.
