The Trump administration has paused all immigration applications filed by people from 19 countries who were banned from traveling to the United States earlier this year.
The action halts green card and citizenship processing for broad swaths of people, according to a spokesman from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

The promptObject API enables users to “talk” to unstructured objects in the same way one would engage an LLM moving the storage world from a PUT and GET paradigm to a PUT and PROMPT paradigm. Applications can use promptObject through function calling with additional logic. This can be combined with chained functions with multiple objects addressed at the same time.

This means that application developers can exponentially expand the capabilities of their applications without requiring domain-sp…

Startups like 247Solar are combining concentrating solar power with heat-storing batteries that deliver 24/7 electricity—even when the sun isn't shining. Their systems can slash carbon emissions by 95% and cut energy costs by 25% or more.
The best part? Businesses can upgrade with zero upfront costs through Energy-as-a-Service.

Abstract: We present VoroUDF, an algorithm for reconstructing high-quality triangle meshes from Unsigned Distance Fields (UDFs). Our algorithm supports non-manifold geometry, sharp features, and open boundaries, without relying on error-prone inside/outside estimation, restrictive look-up tables nor topologically noisy optimization. Our Voronoi-based formulation combines a L_1 tangent minimization with feature-aware repulsion to robustly recover complex surface topology. It achieves significantly improved topological consistency and geometric fidelity compared to existing methods, while producing lightweight meshes suitable for downstream real-time and interactive applications.

Fast Sparse Matrix Permutation for Mesh-Based Direct Solvers

arXiv:2602.00898v1 Announce Type: new
Abstract: We present a fast sparse matrix permutation algorithm tailored to linear systems arising from triangle meshes. Our approach produces nested-dissection-style permutations while significantly reducing permutation runtime overhead. Rather than enforcing strict balance and separator optimality, the algorithm deliberately relaxes these design decisions to favor fast partitioning and efficient elimination-tree construction. Our method decomposes permutation into patch-level local orderings and a compact quotient-graph ordering of separators, preserving the essential structure required by sparse Cholesky factorization while avoiding its most expensive components. We integrate our algorithm into vendor-maintained sparse Cholesky solvers on both CPUs and GPUs. Across a range of graphics applications, including single factorizations, repeated factorizations, our method reduces permutation time and improves the sparse Cholesky solve performance by up to 6.27x.

Good Morning #Canada
Most of us - who are not CEOs, or CFOs, or CTOs, or C-somethings - know that #AI makes the user experience shittier and we'd prefer it wasn't installed on our phone, tablets, applications or toasters. But when it gets installed on children's toys, that becomes a whole new level of evil perpetrated on us by the tech bros. Numerous media outlets reported in the past month about the dangers of letting your kids access AI via a cute and cuddly toy, most focused on a teddy bear that used Chat GPT to explain fetishes and role playing to unsuspecting children. I don't think Santa's Elves were involved in the quality control process. Stick with something low tech, like Play-Doh or LEGO.

Abstract: The discovery of optical frequency combs (OFCs) has revolutionised science and technology by bridging electronics and photonics, driving major advances in precision measurements, atomic clocks, spectroscopy, telecommunications, and astronomy. However, current OFC systems still require further development to enable broader adoption in fields such as communication, aerospace, defence, and healthcare. There is a growing need for compact, portable OFCs that deliver high output power, robust self-referencing, and application-specific spectral coverage. On the conceptual side, progress toward such systems is hindered by an incomplete understanding of the fundamental principles governing OFC generation in emerging devices and materials, as well as evolving insights into the interplay between soliton and mode-locking effects. This roadmap presents the vision of a diverse group of academic and industry researchers and educators from Europe, along with their collaborators, on the current status and future directions of OFC science. It highlights a multidisciplinary approach that integrates novel physics, engineering innovation, and advanced researcher training. Topics include advances in soliton science as it relates to OFCs, the extension of OFC spectra into the visible and mid-infrared ranges, metrology applications and noise performance of integrated OFC sources, new fibre-based OFC modules, OFC lasers and OFC applications in astronomy.

Some tips for debugging #Windows applications that do not start:
1. Run them via #wine. It can give you a useful error message (such as "this library is missing this symbol" rather than completely useless generic error code).
2. Wine has winedump tool that can be used to get information from DLLs and static libraries.
