Just finished "Breadcrumbs" by Kasia Babis. A super interesting graphic novel about growing up in 2000's and 2010's Poland. It's autobiographical, which naturally means lots of plot threads without clear resolutions (they aren't plot threads after all, they're real events). Lots of interesting info on Polish history and politics, which showed me way more than the occasional glimpses I get through social media.

I got a new USB GPS receiver. I attached it to a server in the office and put it on a windows shill. This one is facing east and isn't very clear, and surprisingly it found a pile of sources in gpsmon. Its not nearly as good/fast as the one facing the south window but I think someone in the house is unhappy at the the Pi and Antenna in the living room window...

My standard line about AI is "there's a lot I'm uncertain about". But let's be clear, there's a lot I don't like & I'm probably biased towards the "here's how spectacularly AI failed once again" news (of which there are plenty) or at least the "it's not as impressive as it may look".
Yet, I don't want to close my eyes if I see things that clearly don…

There are days when I feel more lonely than usual, and I wonder if that will ever change. The problem is, there's a whole lot of unusual things I need, probably due to a combination of being on the spectrum, with all the oversensitivity of the senses, rich imagination and the trauma from past relationships.
So right now my girlfriend couldn't smoke, support capitalism, use strong perfumes, wear noisy shoes, jewelry, piercings, makeup, long nails, long/thick eyelashes… and probably there would be more if I put my mind to it. And it's only clear that the list will get longer with more experiences…

…sometimes there’s •not• a clear standard way. Sometimes you need flexibility. For example, a lot of what makes UI programming hard is layout: you have to make your own very specific application look good on a variety of devices and screens, which means coming up with an •algorithm• for adjusting your design for all those different contexts.
That’s an intrinsically hard problem that requires design chops and nuance and contextual knowledge. Attempts to abstract the decisions out of that problem have been stubbornly unsuccessful. (How many layout engines are out there now?)

Even if ICE CBP presence in the Twin Cities goes back to pre-Dec levels (which to be clear it •has not• yet done), we will be living with this for a long time. The world will be moving on, the national press will forget about us no doubt, but we’ll be living with this.
