Changes in a Florida ocean current could wreak havoc worldwide
For 43 years, scientists have been studying the strength of the water flow between Florida and the Bahamas

The information could help scientists answer a pressing question:

When the EIB grants a €20B loan for AI infrastructure while its yearly budget is €100B, that effectively means one-fifth of its annual budget goes to AI infrastructure.
Public transport? Green energy? Social infrastructure? No. Instead, data centres operated by private consortia to potentially sell private services. I hope it will be at least to produce open-source models and software.

Not only are we *all* at risk of being killed at any time by the monsterous incompetence and malice of these systems (yeah, listen to this: iheart.com/podcast/105-behind-), but we are also slowly being killed by systems enforced and protected by these same entities.

Our system, which demands constant, unrestricted growth, shapes everything from our economy to our psychology.
In the climate crisis, it manifests as overproduction and overconsumption, while in AI, it drives the replacement of human labor with cheaper machine labor and the optimization of attention economies.
