Today, I want to discuss a couple of patterns for naming color palettes that the community is using, and how I propose we can improve, so we achieve both flexibility and beauty.

Nuke bug of the day: Nuke's color pipeline breaks with completely nonsensical errors whenever you add the keyword "default_view_transform:" to your OCIO configuration. That's really weird because it doesn't really do anything color-related except define which value the viewer should be set to initially.

As bombs have been falling across the Middle East, I’ve been re-reading Etel Adnan, Lebanese-American poet and painter, especially her book The Arab Apocalypse.
At the same time I have returned to her paintings, which I first encountered at Documenta 13 in 2012. These paintings are small, yet they offer expanses of color and light that fill the eye and lift the spirit.

It's great that the language selection button changes color when it detects the toot is not in the default language, but I'm afraid too many users are colorblind because they appear not to see the button. The language should change automatically or popup a question about it #fediverse

Found another ngscopeclient optimization opportunity: on this benchmark we spent about ten seconds out of a minute waiting for sscanf() as a result of some legacy APIs (dating back to when all drawing was done in Cairo) that store color of protocol data as HTML \#rrggbb color codes at some steps of the pipeline then convert to packed RGBA32 later. There's caching but apparently even that isn't enough.

However, despite advances in pixel-level image quality, current systems struggle to achieve perceptually accurate color reproduction--an essential component of visual realism. These challenges arise from complex system-level distortions caused by coherent laser illumination, spatial light modulator imperfections, chromatic aberrations, and camera-induced color biases. In this work, we propose a perceptually-aware color management framework for holographic displays that jointly addresses input-output color inconsistencies through color space transformation, adaptive illumination control, and neural network-based perceptual modeling of the camera's color response. We validate the effectiveness of our approach through numerical simulations, optical experiments, and a controlled user study. The results demonstrate substantial improvements in perceptual color fidelity, laying the groundwork for perceptually driven holographic rendering in future systems.

Years ago, I went to Olympia to lobby on behalf of a nonprofit healthcare provider where I served on the Board. I didn't know legislators by name or districts by number back then and I just assumed from talking to him that Jamie Pedersen was a Republican.

Over the weekend, I read Rebecca Campbell's Arboreality (2022). It's an enthralling novella about climate catastrophe, community, and collaboration with the natural world. The story, set in British Columbia, bounces between loss and hope, suggesting that doing the hard work of building a new world from the ashes of the old is how one staves off despair and keeps hope alive.

My neighbors definitely do not think this is more of the same. You don’t have to take my word for it. Look at how many Somali and Latin-American restaurants were thriving in November and now are closed, or getting almost no business if they are taking the risk of staying open. Look at how many kids are staying home from school — regardless of legal status, just because of the color of their family’s skin. Look at how many families are living in houses filled with dirty laundry because they won’t even take the risk of leaving the house to go to the laundromat.

Last photo from a week ago when temperatures were high and we enjoyed some time out.
When I look at the photo I notice that ... "times" ago I didn't like the brown grass after winter as I was missing the vivid green.
That day however I didn't even think about it. Maybe becuase of the sun ... or the nice contrast of these heather like flowers? Anyways - it's been a great day out there.
