I think the whole Noe Valley toilet situation is something San Francisco should be genuinely embarrassed about. Not just the initial cost being ridiculous but the fact that we're building an elaborate pretty toilet for an already well off neighborhood where people who genuinely need public toilets in the City will never get them. With the cost of this, even reduced, we could've put a basic toilet here and other places in the City.

A most enlightening thing I learned, many years ago now, was about how one individual was able to oppress many others. I was not surprised to learn that an oppressor believed themselves superior to others. What surprised me was that many of those that were oppressed also adopted the oppressor's supremacist ideology. Had they all been woke, the oppression could never have persisted.

Mine was in 1984, a geotechnical engineering consulting firm in Palo Alto on the edge of the Stanford campus (before the existing Children's Hospital was built).
