If the Iranian leadership has the feeling that Israel wants to completely destroy Iran's military capabilities, why wouldn't they do something extreme like attacking US bases in the region, destroy oil installations in the neighbourhood , close Hormuz etc, while they still have the capabilities... 🤔
There doesn't seem to be an opening for de-escalation for Iran?

I have my share of issues with Parkrose Permaculture, but she has a lot of things I do strongly agree with. I can't stress enough that you never dehumanize your enemies. You can respond appropriately to violence. You can defend yourself from them by any means necessary. But you do not dehumanize them. You always limit your response to the minimum necessary to defend yourself.
There are a number of former Nazi skins who became antifascists after realizing they were wrong. Those folks tend to be some of the most dedicated because they feel a debt, and some of the most knowledgeable because they were there. Coming out of these types of cults, police included, is hard and takes time. A lot of us don't have the ability to work with them. But some do.
By repeatedly humanizing your opponent, you can break some of them. The #Seattle Police Department was not defunded but saw a massive reduction in numbers because their morale was destroyed. Some people will never change. Some people are broken and feel like they need the power. But if you change one person's mind, even give them something to think about, it's a crack. If even one cop quits, that's one less trained gun pointed at you in the future.
The 18 year old marines and federalized national guard troops out there are literally kids. A lot of them came from poor communities. They are being used in a way they haven't been trained to do, doing things they (should) have been told are not legal. They joined to get out of poverty, to go to college, or to "defend the American people" (regardless of how misguided that is). Few, if any, of them joined to abuse people. They will be especially open to persuasion.
Remind those troops that they are carrying out illegal orders, that they are being called on to violate their oath to protect the constitution, that they are suppressing the free speech of the fellow Americans they swore to defend. Remind them that the people they could be illegally arresting now are just like their parents, their neighbors, their families, the friends who didn't join. Remind them that this is the first step. They will be called on to kill Americans if they let this keep going.
Remind them ICE sleeps in hotels while they sleep on the ground. Remind them that their drunk and incompetent leadership thinks of them as disposable tools. Remind them that some of these people are out protesting *for them* against cuts to the VA and other services. Remind them that the people they're defending refuse to make college free so they can recruit from poor schools. Remind them that they will always be welcome when they're ready to join the side of freedom and justice.
When you dehumanize your enemies, you unify them. When you humanize your enemies, you can divide them. There is no weapon available to us right now so powerful as compassion.

Read this story. Get it out. This is important.
❝“If soldiers have political views that are in opposition to the current administration and they don't want to be in the audience then they need to speak with their leadership and get swapped out,” another note to troops said.❞
In a country where the military is one of the more respected institutions, people need — NEED — to hear this:

They staged it like reality TV.

Content warning: UKPol, Palestine Action, Email to my MP

Dear Emily Thornberry,
I don't usually bother to write to you on most issues because I figure there is pretty much no point communicating with a whipped MP in a safe seat under first past the post. Such an MP has no reason to listen to their constituents at all, and is entirely a tool of the party leadership.
I make an exception today since I hear your government is about to classify Palestine Action as a terrorist group. Despite them being peaceful, non-violent, and dedicated entirely to preventing the greater crime of the ongoing genocide of Gazan Palestinians.
This is obviously a gross overreaction and a completely unjustifiable act designed not to prevent domestic terrorism but to cover up British forces and UK government involvement and collaboration with the genocide in Gaza.
If we are taking suggestions for groups to ban as terrorists even though they aren't terrorists, I would like to suggest the Labour Party! The party has helped facilitate a genocide abroad, and continues to supply the perpetrators with arms and intelligence to aid their actions.
I don't expect you to take that suggestion seriously, but maybe Reform will take it seriously when they get elected in a few years and I suggest it again to them. After all, a precedent will have been set that groups which aren't terrorists can be banned under anti-terror legislation anyway. Democracy will have already been eroded.
I was ready to be disappointed by this Labour government, but I confess that the level of gut-wrenching visceral disgust I am experiencing at them surpassed all my wildest expectations. Taking money from the disabled to buy new war-planes from a fascist US president while abetting a genocide in Gaza makes me wonder if Reform wouldn't be better in the end anyway. At least they might do electoral reform and nationalize the water companies.
Labour's only hope, the country's only hope, is to remove Starmer. I wish you had won that leadership election instead of him.
Anyway, as I say, I don't expect it to make any difference at all because under this election system even MPs in safe seats are nothing but tools of the party leadership and the party leadership seems determined. But I thought I'd let you know that I see you. I see what you are doing.
I support Palestine Action more than I support this government. Let me know where I should hand myself in for my "crime".
Yours sincerely,
Adam

We are barely 6 months into #TheAmericanFascist Presidency and we already find ourselves with fundamental rights in the American Constitution under direct threat and the power of the judiciary to enforce and check the power of the President being pulled back.
And Democratic Party members seem to be all talk and very very little action or leadership to counter this.
Are they waiting for the midterms to take back Congress?
At this pace, surely they see the risk that there may not BE midterms. Or that the results are negated, disputed or invalidated.
I can’t fathom how they are not removing themselves from Congress now in protest and calling for a general protest/strike of all freedom loving Americans to restore the constitution, force the Trump appointed fascist enabling judges to resign, and force Trump and his Administration to go.

There’s a second theory, not mutually exclusive, about the frozen job market having to do with resentment from corporate leadership about the sudden surge in labor power in 2020. Someone (maybe @…?) referred to this as a “captial strike.”
I’m not sure how much economic sense that theory makes — but I am sure that corporate leadership is often impulsive, petty, and irrational, and frequently does things that make no economic sense. I can’t elucidate the theory well, but it’s thing I’m keeping my eye on.

Canadians: Replace Ardern with Trudeau and use other Canadian touchstones in place of #nzpol and you have an accurate article for Canada.
Which should speak to what Progressives actually need to do here, and everywhere.
"Ardern’s leadership has often been described as emotionally intelligent, compassionate, and people-centred. But compassion is not liberation. Empathy alone does not redistribute wealth, dismantle police power, or decommodify housing. What Ardern perfected was a mode of governance that couched neoliberalism in progressive language. A style of leadership that appeared anti-fascist, anti-racist, and feminist, while presiding over deepening inequality, mass incarceration of Māori, ongoing colonisation, environmental destruction, and a housing system that serves landlords and property speculators.
Ardern’s “politics of kindness” masked a status quo commitment to capitalism and state power. Her government’s housing policies floundered under the weight of market logic. Despite the crisis of homelessness and unaffordability, the Labour government never seriously considered nationalising housing, implementing rent controls, or seizing vacant properties from land-bankers. Instead, they protected the interests of property investors, many of whom were MPs themselves."

Content warning: Gaza/Israel, UK response

Finally, with a hundred thousand dead, two thirds of the buildings bombed, all the hospitals and infrastructure destroyed, more than a million people on the verge of starvation, and Israel's leadership even more openly bragging about their intent to ethnically cleanse the area, it's gone on "too long".
Well done Lammy and Starmer. You finally noticed eh?
So trade deal talks are off, and weapons export licenses are... Well. We'll see. "Always Under Review" they say.
And the main reason for the slight and tiny change in emphasis? Mostly Trump. They are following Trump. They feel easier criticizing Israel's genocide now Trump looks easier with it.

It all fits. Suppose you’re corporate leadership. You’re laying people off / refusing to hire because you have no clue what things will look like even 1 or 2 years in the future, and you are •terrified•.
Meanwhile, your investors, your gullible trend-chasing investors, are already mentally dividing companies into “pre-AI” and “post-AI.” And not only do you have no idea how to be “post-AI,” but you have no idea whether you’ll be solvent next year. What do you tell them?!??
Obviously you tell them you’re not hiring because you’re having such incredible success with AI! Maybe even you’re going to lay off all the senior people! They’ll love that!
Now you’re not failing and flailing — you’re leading the march into the future! Yay!

It’s not the whole story by a long shot, but it’s definitely part of it — particularly the psyops of all the “Most of you will soon lose your jobs!” pronouncements from leadership.
