Incredibly, this is a 1979 design, but looks far more “peak 1985” and importantly has a lot of (exterior) design cues that were imperative in the 1990s. However a few clues about the technical form make it too “old” for the 1990s — not the style though, but the fact that this style technically came from the 1970s was a shock.

Back in 1994 when asked about the (very popular) bank of Compaq gaming machines packed with latest CDROMs being a core of the Information Highway exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre (god rest its soul), I would explain that the CDROM was a proxy for the bandwidth that was to come.
I think I got that more right than I knew: the CD-R/DVD-R is a TRANSPORT media, and certainly absolutely NOT a STORAGE media. It's charm is transport over very very very slow baud rates of perhaps 4GB/20 years. 😅

I grew up in a large city in a western democracy, with a socialist city government and it was fine.
There was basically no crime. People didn’t go hungry. Housing was affordable. Rent was regulated. Public transport was amazing. Education was free. Everyone had healthcare. Taxes were practically the same as in the US.
It was also much, much easier to start a business there than in the US. (Literally took an hour!)
People who wanted to get rich still could do it (there’s a few Austrian billionaires even).
I don’t understand how Americans got themselves so brainwashed that “socialism” is used as a term that sort of means “iworse than death”.

To verify the asertion, we implement a chain of split-ring resonators and their complementary ones with controllable hopping strengths. By performing the measurements on the group delay of non-trivially topological edge states with pulse excitations, the transport time between two edge states is directly observed with the chain length up to $20$. Along the route to harness topology to protect optical information, our experimental demonstrations provide a crucial guideline for utilizing photonic topological devices.

Halifax, because of its large natural harbour, served as an important military base for British ships in North America. Founded in 1749 and incorporated as a city in 1842, it is known for a number of 1sts. Halifax had the 1st public school in Canada as well as the first law school and art college. Canada’s 1st newspaper, the Halifax Gazette, was established in 1752, and the city had the first all electric city lighting grid in North America. The harbour was also the site for the world's largest man-made explosion in #WWI when a munitions transport collided with another ship. Awesome place to visit but try not to jump when they fire the traditional noon cannon.

We have a gluten detection service dog because many things that should be gluten free/say they’re gluten free are not actually gluten free.
Stuff gets contaminated when growing (e.g. next to wheat field), by shared equipment, in factories, from packaging, during transport and in-store.
Every US consumer should know:
1. The list of ingredients on food isn't exhaustive
2. Allergen labeling:
a) limited to just some allergens
b) manufacturers don't actually have to test
c) "certified" foods are tested—but not continuously
d) testing only works with enough contamination
Some certifications may require batch-testing, but usually they don't.
A "certified gluten free" product may e.g. contain oats which sometimes are contaminated with gluten—but as not every batch is tested it's impossible to know unless you test yourself (hence the service dog).
Even if the product is properly batch-tested, you might get a part of the product that has the allergen in it, whereas the tested part didn't.
Or the threshold was too low (our dog can detect gluten better than any available lab testing equipment; yes, dogs are amazing).
Food products also contain ingredients that do not have to be included on the label when they're "incidental" (included in an another ingredient) or if they're considered part of the manufacturing process but not of the final product (e.g. various coatings on factory equipment).
Don't need to list flavors or specific spices either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As for allergens, only those responsible for ~90% of food allergies* have to be specifically declared, and they're not tested for as it's simply based on the ingredients list.
Good luck if you have other allergies.

If I understand correctly, the contracts for housing asylum-serkers in ramshackle hotels (because they can't work or access benefits) are open to rip-offs by hotel owners and the taxi firms contracted to do the transport.
So the people badly served are now further demonised and will mostly be denied help to get to health appointments.
