Just started listening to this one, and I'd absolutely recommend it. It's great.
It's really hard to explain how complicated beliefs can be, especially to folks in an urban bubble. The truth is, part of my anarchism came from listening to #rural folks. I didn't really live in a big city until I was like 18, but I came to those places already with a set of liberal biases.
Some of the things I experienced in those places pushed me towards being a Communist. But there are some strangely anarchistic tenancies, even in those who profess to be politically the opposite.
My stance on guns was largely shaped by understanding and extending the arguments of rural gun owners. They continued to evolve long after, but it took actually listening to break through my liberal biases and understand the ways in which gun control can actually intersect with other forms of oppression. There is a lot more nuance than I had grown up to believe.
And it goes both ways. Conservative gun owners have absolutely no intellectual against anarchist gun arguments. They're generally either gonna fall into racism that you can talk about, or start to radicalize left. There are plenty of similar pathways.
But also, not everyone in rural areas is conservative. There are plenty of rural anarchists and communists. They just get buried under stereotypes.
Anyway, this has been great to listen to and I'd recommend it.

Martin wakes up to cops with guns drawn. From there the story splits into something stranger: a possible alien alteration, a second consciousness sharing his body, and a man uncertain of his own sanity.
Reminded me of American Gods: mythic forces colliding with the mundane.
A blistering critique of qualified immunity. racist enforcement, and police militarism wrapped in a propulsive, strange novella.

There's a new meat eating hype. Meat companies are telling everyone people would have more energy if they only ate more meat. Employers are getting huge meat lunches for their employees and expecting a productivity boost. Against their better judgement, employees are stuffing themselves with loads of meat and struggling to work. But eventually, they figure out how to eat more and be more productive. In the meantime, a lot of people (including meat eaters) are crying over the obvious climate and health harm, both from increased meat consumption and from increased waste as people throw away even more food.
Meat eaters now put up a big banners of what meat they like, and invite others to join them with meat. More people are becoming vocally vegan, or at least trying to limit their meat consumption. Some also put "vegan" or even more aggressive "no meat allowed" signs.
Some meat eaters think it's fine to bring offering of meat to a stranger if they didn't put up an explicit "vegan" sign yet. "I won't get offensed, I'll just throw it in the trash", they say. Some go even further and try to trick you by saying it's actually a vegan meat-lookalike.

I'm old-fashioned. When folks visit my home, I offer THEM a cup of coffee. Like any peasant, I hope they refuse, three times 😅
I'm not denoucing the practice, only that the etiquette bugs me, and not sure of a fix. If this is truly Gift Economy, we only require an opportunity to "return the favour", not an upfront "hey, yeah you, stranger, take this gift but FIRST, you got any for me?"
In my Real Life, folks often, having heard or read me, offer to buy lunch (or beer) if I'll tell them more (I'm a sucker for that) which I suppose is really like an OnlyFans acct with teasers on Tumblr sort of thing 🤣
