Oil is the absolute enemy, and that should be completely clear at this point. Advocate hard for a Dutch style traffic plan and Dutch bike infrastructure. Push hard for mass transit. Fight car infrastructure with everything you can. Abolish free parking.
Every dollar you spend on gas, every dollar that goes to roads and free parking, is a dollar that will be spent murdering civilians to steal their oil.
Free parking is the most important subsidy to car culture. The more expensive you can make parking, the fewer cars will be on the road, the safer cities will be, and the less money will be available for the gang of thieves directing the military.

You've been told to pick one thing and stick to it.
But what if your curiosity across many areas is not a problem to fix?
What if it's actually a signal?
In a world that can automate execution, imagination is the real constraint.
And imagination does not live in narrow corridors.

What parts of yourself have you been told don't fit?

Good Morning #Canada
B.C. is full of hipsters, Alberta is oil obsessed, Ontario has a superiority complex, PEI prays to potatoes, and all Newfies drink Screech at breakfast. Every Province and Territory is known for their unique habits, culture, and views of the world. And we all hold expectations and misconceptions of our neighbours across internal borders. Hey, it's a long winter and we need some gossip to get us to the end of it.
The attached video provides a detailed rundown of stereotypes for each Province and Territory, and some of the content is accurate, like Toronto being the centre of the universe. It's a bit long but you can select a chapter to check out your Province, or one that you dislike. My favourite is Albertans pouring oil on their cereal.

For all its success, there are two things Netflix wants and has never achieved. First is to win the Academy Award for best picture and, second, to make a proper blockbuster movie. It’s well to remember that Netflix is a US corporation, not the radical guerrilla outfit it sometimes presents itself as. And they want their films to be at the heart of mainstream American culture in the same way their TV shows are.

Underlings are so annoying!
Sometimes you can make this problem go away by exploiting weak labor power (see: factories, agriculture, sanitation).
Sometimes you can create a toxic org culture when information •only• flows down the hierarchy, so no pushback can ever reach your sensitive ears. (Public school administrations are rife with this.)
Sometimes you can do it by making your catastrophic failures look like a string of successes to the people up the chain. (Large corporations are swimming in this.)

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the Nacirema people is their insistence that they do not participate in practices of which they clearly do. Equally unusual is the fact that, unlike other sacrificial cultures who raid neighboring tribes for victims, both slaves and victims for human sacrifice are only taken from within the society. In fact, there is a very strong cultural taboo against sacrificing or enslaving those from other tribes.
They are aware of the rituals of human sacrifice in other tribes, but claim such rituals to be inconsistent with their society. Yet their human sacrifice rituals are some of the most elaborate in the world. These rituals are so important that there is a whole part of Nacirema society dedicated specifically to arguing about who should and should not be sacrificed, restraining and feeding the potential victims for the years during which these arguments take place, and ultimately preparing and administering the ritual poison.
This is strangely similar to their approach to slavery. Both human sacrifice and slavery were once a much larger part of Nacirema society. Their human sacrifice rituals now take far longer and happen far less often, but at no point have they ever recognized these ritual sacrifices as such. Meanwhile, the Nacirema do acknowledge that slavery was part of their culture once. During the time when they did recognize their practice of slavery, they did raid other tribes for slaves. Now they follow the same complex ritual for slavery as they do for human sacrifice.
It is strange that, by following this ritual and only choosing victims from within their society, they seem to become incapable of seeing their behavior for what it is.

Content warning: re: bitcoin conference report

Day two introduced again by Mad bitcoins .
Then the history of art on bitcoin includes satoshi and his original logo, ASCII art in the Blockchain, Cassius coins with scratch off keys, these pictured images of fake satoshi and 200 logos.
Exploded from there, trading cards, the rare Pepe's.
What makes it bitcoin art?
Symbology. The logo. Religious symbology. Is it a cult?
Memes. Memes catch and go in a fashion which is unpredictable and fits the whole history to a timeline.
Art builds culture and heros proliferate bitcoin culture for all.
Art traditionally goes up in value but none of it seems to outpace bitcoin itself.
Some is for sale in the gallery but it'll unlikely be a better but then 30 percent discount bitcoin today 😆

This isn't about Malcolm Gladwell specifically, though he'll appear as a recurring character.

take a subject that seems simple,
complicate it with research that seems to undermine common sense,
