The average investor who bought #SpaceX shares in the open market after its debut has seen nearly all of their gains disappear as a sharp pullback erased a large chunk of the stock’s post-IPO surge: cnbc.com/2026/06/18/the-averag - "The reversal underscores how quickly sentiment has shifted following the company’s blockbuster debut. After briefly pushing SpaceX’s market value close to $3 trillion, investors have begun reassessing whether the stock’s rapid advance can be justified by fundamentals."

So why, all the sudden, would it be really high in nutrients?
My guess is they refilled it with city water.
Washington DC like most major metropolitan areas, adds orthophosphate to the water for lead corrosion control.
It works beautifully for this,
but orthophosphate is also a bioavailable form of phosphate,

Stuibenfall, Tyrol's largest waterfall (October 2025)
A major landslide on the opposite side of the main Ötztal valley around 7000 years ago created a new 300-400 meter tall hill on this side, acting as a dam and causing a large lake to form in the higher up side valley. The water from that lake then slowly carved its way through the rocks, draining the lake and forming this amazing waterfall. The boundary of that ancient lake is still visible on the satellite view...

RE: mastodon.social/@nixCraft/1169
So very much this: Even if you think AI is net-positive, we have a duty to expand well, not on top of the most marginalized as always.
The way we do it now is the way of paving natural beauty, discarding entire communities, and taking what is often limited resources from those who need them to live.
It is possible to build data centers that do not have these problems. It is possible to power with solar, to cool with a refrigeration cycle instead of evaporating water.
It just costs more energy. And therefore is only viable if we invest in solar, heavily, and require it.
One of the fundamental tenets embedded in capitalism is that if you can't represent it in the market, it doesn't have to be taken into account. Community and ways of life are those things.

Abstract: The hydroelastic response of free floating viscoelastic covers is measured using Faraday waves on the surface of a vertically oscillated fluid layer. We systematically vary the thickness $d$ of the covers to investigate its effect on the hydroelastic dispersion relation, the damping and the isotropy of the waves. Compared to bare fluids, the wave patterns are disordered. Various methods are explored to define and analyze the wavelengths, the isotropy, and shape of the waves. We find a significant difference between the measurements and the theoretical dispersion relation. Over all thicknesses $d$, this is explained by an increase in the in-plane membrane tension, which scales with $d^{3/2}$. Covering waves also has a large efect on their damping. Only for thin covers ($d = 20\: \mu{\rm m}$) the onset amplitude (and thus the damping) can be explained by dissipation in the bulk and in the boundary layer of the water beneath the cover. The same was found for bare water due to the presence of an immobile surface layer. Lastly, we find a large effect of the membrane on the ampitude of the waves, which we attribute to nonlinear wave interaction.

These industrial dyes—from clothing, cosmetics, and more—don't naturally degrade and contaminate water worldwide, harming ecosystems and human health.

National parks are deteriorating. There’s a fix Congress isn’t making.
The national park system faces a maintenance backlog of $24 billion in crumbling roads, aging water systems, washed-out trails and dilapidated visitor facilities.
That is more than seven times the National Park Service’s annual budget.

Last month, committees in both the House and Senate advanced bipartisan bills to dedicate roughly $1.3 billion annually for park maintenance over the next five years. …

Water levels in Lake Powell,
the second-biggest reservoir on the beleaguered Colorado River,
are in danger of falling so low that its dam can no longer generate hydropower,
according to a federal analysis released Wednesday.

The new “most probable” forecast from the Bureau of Reclamation projects that
the height of water in Lake Powell,
which sits on the border of Utah and Arizona,
will fall to 3,491 feet by March.
That’s just one foot above

We continue our conversation with acclaimed Iranian environmental scientist Kaveh Madani,
who comments on U.S. strikes targeting Iranian water reservoirs,
which have exacerbated the country’s water shortage.
He criticizes the “normalization of targeting civil infrastructure as a part of a war.”
“Who suffers from the consequences of this?
The poor community, the vulnerable communities,” says Madani

The environmental toll of the artificial intelligence boom continues to mount
as tech companies use ever more power to run their data centers
and enormous amounts of water for cooling.
A new investigation by U.N. scientists warns that AI’s water use in 2030 will match the needs of 1.3 billion people,
while its power use will be triple that of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria combined
— countries with a total population of 650 million.

The most revealing fact about Google’s water use in The Dalles is not just the size of the number.
It is how difficult that number was for the public to obtain.
The Dalles spent 13 months fighting to keep Google’s water use secret

Military strikes that damaged two water storage facilities in southern Iran
may constitute a war crime,
military and legal experts say,
after reviewing media reports and visual evidence of a 10 June strike on Bemani,
a small district about 2 miles from the strait of Hormuz.
It’s unclear if the strikes deliberately targeted the district’s water tanks,
or if they unintentionally destroyed a key reservoir for about 20,000 people living nearby.
But if t…

Strikes early Wednesday destroyed what appears to be a drinking-water facility on Iran’s southern coast, near the Strait of Hormuz, according to an analysis by The New York Times.
Around the time of the strikes, the U.S. Central Command said in a post on X that it had conducted attacks near the strait “with precision munitions from U.S. Air Force and Navy fighter jets.”
It is unclear if the U.S. intentionally struck the water facilities, or knew what was in the buildings.

Lake Powell, US’s second-largest reservoir, threatens to plunge to unprecedentedly low levels this year
after a historically bleak snowpack failed to raise its water level, scientists and water experts have said,
adding renewed urgency to stalled talks over how to conserve a water source depended on by tens of millions of people in the US south-west.
The 185-mile Colorado River reservoir currently stands at about 23% of its capacity, or roughly 5.6m acre-feet.
