There’s more: the e-bike means I’m not planning to replace my venerable old car when it finally dies; we’ll become a one-car family.
AFAICT from my research, this is even more important for climate / pollution concerns than the mileage. Just the sunk carbon emissions cost of manufacturing any new car, EV or otherwise, is roughly equivalent to another ~10 years of driving the venerable old gas-powered Civic. 10 years!
If you’re going to be buying a car, buying an EV is better. But unless you’re putting massive mileage on it, there’s a pretty good chance that not buying •any• new car ever — just running the existing one into the ground and shifting primary transportation mode — is the even better choice.
