Things are happening in the C2PA world; here are a couple of useful steps forward, plus cheers and boos for Adobe. Plus a live working C2PA demo you can try out: tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/20

A blurry picture of something or other with swirls of light.
A C2PA verifier pop-up saying that Adobe asserts that this picture was produced by Timothy Bray, that it was processed with Lightroom, and links to the author's accounts on LinkedIn and Instagram.
A C2PA verifier popup with a thumbnail of the picture, a hard-to-understand about embedded vs cloud credentials, a confirmation that this information was published by Adobe, that the photo was produced by Timothy Bray, and that it was processed with Lightroom.

Somehow I got myself on this mailing list, every month or 3 they send a list of used printing equipment in Europe. I actually enjoy glancing at it, definitely a Heavy Metal vibe, for example this thing, made in 2011, has printed 137M impressions, and can be yours for a mere 420,000€. Free shipping probably not available.

#Vancouver folks: They’ve renamed Trutch St (thank goodness, Trutch was an asshole), its new name translated into English is “Musqueamview”. In Musqueam that’s “šxʷməθkʷəyΓəmasəm” which, it turns out, sounds like “sh-musqueam-awesome” to my ears. I think it’d be cool if we were all saying sh-musqueam-awesome to each other.

I’ve long been a fan of the Check My Ads people. Now they’re launching a really ambitious-looking “Policy Platform” aimed at cleaning up the online-advertising business. My belief is that anyone who’s had much exposure to that business or to “AdTech” probably agrees that cleanup is called for. Check it out: checkmyads.org/policy/

Check My Ads Institute
Policy Platform
The digital advertising industry has grown into a $750 billion juggernaut. It is largely unregulated, deeply opaque, and increasingly harmful.
Adtech companies extract personal data, enable fraud, and fund harmful and illegal content. These middlemen siphon value from advertisers and publishers while benefitting from the monetization of everything from AI-spam to sanctioned foreign propaganda—without advertisers evening knowing it’s happening.
