This video essay about the look of Sinners (which was shot on 70mm IMAX and Ultra Panavision) brought up something I hadn't realised until now: the large format gives you a wide field of view with the look of a telephoto lens! What that means is that you get shallow depth of field like in closeup shots with the framing of a wider angle lens.
Personal observation: there's also very little barrel lens distortion that usually comes with wide shots on 35mm.

The benchmark dataset is P/N legs of 100baseTX Ethernet sampled at 500 Msps with a ThunderScope.
At 50M point memory depth, each waveform is 100 MB in size (2 channels * 8 bits * 500 Msps) and covers 100ms of real time.
The filter graph currently takes just shy of a second to run, meaning we're at 10% of real time. I want to improve on this.
Genus-0 Surface Parameterization using Spherical Beltrami Differentials

Abstract: Spherical surface parameterization is a fundamental tool in geometry processing and imaging science. For a genus-0 closed surface, many efficient algorithms can map the surface to the sphere; consequently, a broad class of task-driven genus-0 mapping problems can be reduced to constructing a high-quality spherical self-map. However, existing approaches often face a trade-off between satisfying task objectives (e.g., landmark or feature alignment), maintaining bijectivity, and controlling geometric distortion. We introduce the Spherical Beltrami Differential (SBD), a two-chart representation of quasiconformal self-maps of the sphere, and establish its correspondence with spherical homeomorphisms up to conformal automorphisms. Building on the Spectral Beltrami Network (SBN), we propose a neural optimization framework BOOST that optimizes two Beltrami fields on hemispherical stereographic charts and enforces global consistency through explicit seam-aware constraints. Experiments on large-deformation landmark matching and intensity-based spherical registration demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed framework. We further apply the method to brain cortical surface registration, aligning sulcal landmarks and jointly matching cortical sulci depth maps, showing improved task fidelity with controlled distortion and robust bijective behavior.

Uhh #mountainMonday again? Okay, this is a view from one of my recent walks.
As usual it was just nice to escape the fog in the valley. It's always the same - when you're below or in the clouds for a couple of days ... it's all just grey and dimm.
And by the minute when I break through into the sunshine, I immediately feel the impact to my mood.
What I’d love to see: An in-depth wide-ranging review of the various “workspace” tools - docs, sheets, calendars - that are options for people who want to de-Google themselves. I know about Proton, Fastmail, etc, but not from people who've daily-driven more than one of them.

I went to the local hill / mountain today to escape the fog / clouds. Well and also to see whether the fog would create some nice mood to capture along the way that I'm walking rather often.
And indeed it was a very pleasant experience to walk into the fog and breaking through it to see some blue sky.

The weather wasn't motivating either. But I finally did one of my standard loops. It was indeed silent as there were almost no people out today.

A this photo from yesterday's location scouting could fit for #thickTrunkTuesday , right?
It's been quite a time since I went to a new location with the clear intent of location scouting. - It took me a while until I was able to "see" something as I was so much in walking/hiking-mode.
But it was a good experience to do it again.
