In 2014, NASA awarded a Commercial Crew Transportation Capability contract to Boeing to fly astronauts to and from the International Space Station with its #Starliner spacecraft; as part of its contract, Boeing was awarded up to six crewed flights to the orbital complex - after a thorough evaluation, the definitive order has been adjusted to four missions, with the remaining two available as options: nasa.gov/blogs/spacestation/20. The next Starliner flight, known as Starliner-1, will be used by NASA to deliver necessary cargo to the orbital laboratory and allow in-flight validation of the system upgrades implemented following the Crew Flight Test mission last year - NASA and Boeing are targeting no earlier than April 2026 to fly the uncrewed Starliner-1 pending completion of rigorous test, certification, and mission readiness activities.

Russian Shahed drones over Kyiv: Ultra-low flight evades radar as veteran warns of new threat: benborges.xyz/2026/01/26/russi

A federal judge in Denver on Tuesday
ordered federal immigration officers to stop making arrests in Colorado without a warrant,
unless the detainee posed a flight risk.
The ruling by Judge R. Brooke Jackson could be put on hold once the administration appeals,
just as earlier rulings in Los Angeles and Illinois limiting immigration agents’ powers were quickly blocked by higher courts.

The non-exodus of California billionaires
The media says they’re fleeing a wealth tax. Except, they’re not.
Nary a day has passed of late that hasn’t seen stories about the billionaires’ flight from California, lest they be subjected to a proposed wealth tax that hasn’t yet gathered the required signatures to qualify for the ballot. The fact that there is no billionaires’ flight from California hasn’t impeded the flow of such tales.

These are the photos for my 2026 calendar. Got the proofs today. Should have the hard copies in 2 weeks. Always agonizing to pick 13 of my photos for the next one. The last few years I’ve had to use older ones too. I don’t get out to shoot as much anymore. I’m hoping that will improve. I’ve volunteered to be a photographer for the city park dept. I’ll take pics of people engaged in the parks and activities, and whatever else I see.

Composite of 12 photos I’ve selected for my 2026 calendar. In order the pictures are:
January - a house finch in a tree
February - a coyote standing looking at the photographer (me)
March - sunrise over mountains
April - 3 days-old goslings in weeds
May - a catbird in a tree
June - scenic view of mountains, clouds, rain, and sunlight
July - closeup of a Mariposa Lily
August - closeup of a prickly poppy
September - head and shoulders of an elk cow
October - a blue heron taking flight
November - …

Heading South
But not for the warmth.. Tomorrow I'm taking the first stage of the journey to Antarctica, ironically enough though, I'm heading south by first heading north, to Oslo, where the Norwegian Polar Institute have organised an almost direct flight from Oslo to Troll station with a short stopover in Cape Town. Bags almost packed and ready to go... I'm super excited and also suffering a little trepidation.
