So we've been using a Neato vacuum robot for years. It works and with cats having the main living areas vacuumed every day was great. Now the company who bought them no longer wants to run the backend cloud service that allows the robot to actually run on a schedule which is the point of the whole operation.
Vorwerk just created a whole lot of e-waste for shits and giggles.

Picture the human body. Zoom in on a single cell. It lives for a while, then splits or dies, as part of a community of cells that make up a particular tissue. This community lives together for many many cell-lifetimes, each performing their own favorite function and reproducing as much as necessary to maintain their community, consuming the essential resources they need and contributing back what they can so that the whole body can live for decades. Each community of cells is interdependent on the whole body, but also stable and sustainable over long periods of time.
Now imagine a cancer cell. It has lost its ability to harmonize with the whole and prioritize balance, instead consuming and reproducing as quickly as it can. As neighboring tissues start to die from its excess, it metastasizes, always spreading to new territory to fuel its unbalanced appetite. The inevitable result is death of the whole body, although through birth, that body can create a new fresh branch of tissues that may continue their stable existence free of cancer. Alternatively, radiation or chemotherapy might be able to kill off the cancer, at great cost to the other tissues, but permitting long-term survival.
To the cancer cell, the idea of decades-long survival of a tissue community is unbelievable. When your natural state is unbounded consumption, growth, and competition, the idea of interdependent cooperation (with tissues all around the body you're not even touching, no less) seems impossible, and the idea that a tissue might survive in a stable form for decades is ludicrous.
"Perhaps if conditions were bleak enough to perfectly balance incessant unrestrained growth against the depredations of a hostile environment it might be possible? I guess the past must have been horribly brutal, so that despite each tissue trying to grow as much as possible they each barely survived? Yes, a stable and sustainable population is probably only possible under conditions of perfectly extreme hardship, and in our current era of unfettered growth, we should rejoice that we live in much easier times!"
You can probably already see where I'm going with this metaphor, but did you know that there are human communities, alive today, that have been living sustainably for *tens, if not hundreds of thousands of years*?
#anarchy #colonialism #civilization

What's especially interesting, and dangerous to capitalism, is that there are a lot of opportunities that come out of this.
Corporations are destroying everything. We actually don't need them. We can build mutual aid networks, guerilla gardening, library socialism... When we stop with consumerism, we can find the joy in actually living, creating, being a creative human rather than simply a consumer. With a bit of momentum we can bend the system to our will. With enough momentum we can shatter it completely and free ourselves from this trap.
Things can go a lot of different ways. I'm excited to see how things go.
Edit:
I'm specifically excited about this...

But basically yes, collapsing living standards mean that Labour will be out by 2029, a further right party (Reform or its successor) will be dominant and the best we can hope for is a hung parliament with a coalition of everyone-but-Reform.

People in the US have just had their brains fried by suburban myths. We walked from a Copenhagen subway station to visit friends living in some of that housing, then we walked with them and their kids to the nearby pasture-N-stuff. They don't even own a bicycle yet, but they're making plans.
Afterwards, two stops up the subway line we stopped in a mall to pick up some stuff my wife needed for work the next day.

From these photos one may wonder if the government of Israel retains its legitimacy....

Folks, @… is in Egypt with her kids, living under very hard conditions as her husband is stuck in Gaza. We helped her husband and the seven families they’re responsible for move South with the Gaza Verified Emergency Appeal last week but Abeer still needs ongoing help to feed her family in Egypt and send money to Gaza for her husband to do the same.

Nugget has it all figured out.

Nugget decides that the bean bag is his identity from now on.

Video of a cat sprawled out upsidedown on a bean bag just chillin' and living the comfy life. Human filming is saying, "Nugget, whatcha doing bud? Whatcha doing, silly boy? Is there a singular thought behind those eyes?"

I just got word that the family home of one of our Gaza Verified families was bombed by Israel.
I know the names of nine of the family members, including two children, who were murdered by Israel and there are other relatives who were living there that were also murdered in the same genocidal attack.
Our Gaza Verified family member and their immediate family are safe in the South.
I am devastated for them.
