Democrats focused on the improving metrics
and lost voters who were drowning in the day to day reality.
Trump is doing something even worse.
He is telling people their suffering does not exist at all.
That is not optimism.
That is contempt.
And contempt has a way of boomeranging in politics.

There is more than enough to go around. We just need to organise that.
This is how a matriarchal world order would arrange things:

RT @jasonhickel (on X)
Striking new paper shows that bringing the entire world population up to decent-living standards would require only about 3% of existing global resource use.

Think about the implications of this:

Right now, at least 80% of humanity is deprived of decent-living standards. More
than 2 billion people do not even have stable access to food. These are massive
levels of deprivation.

Living on a hill without direct fiber or cable sucks sometimes.
At midnight our main ISP crapped out completely and then in the morning I manually switched to our super-slow backup ISP (like 8Mbps down, 1Mbps up) but that one also intermittently craps out.
Main ISP says it should be fixed soon, their "internet chassis" at another location shit the bed and they need to replace multiple pieces of hardware.

Sonnenberg ridge entirely living up to its name...
(Made the most of the last warm weather yesterday afternoon to hike/climb along this beautiful long ridge with many cliffs, roped sections, some cute chamois and hardly any people — temporarily felt like late August, yet in two days supposedly snow starting...)
#SilentSunday

A narrow path along a very narrow ridge of light gray rocks, steep slopes dropping off on either side. The south-facing right side is mostly forested, illuminated by the warm afternoon sun. Blue sky with some streaky clouds.
Steep slopes with yellow brown dried grasses leading down into the valley between some cliffs of light gray rocks and forest. Everything bathed in warm golden light. The valley floor is visible with dense forest, a section of the Linder river and tall mountains rising up on the other side of the valley. Hazy sky.
The silhouette of a standalone rock needle and some nearby trees along the ridge. The sun and some mountains are partially visible from behind the rock. Beautiful red/brown grasses.
(Almost) white, vertical cliffs seen through the forest, illuminated by the late afternoon sun. A small section of blue sky above.

The recent election results proved something important.
Voters responded to candidates who spoke directly to economic pain.
When Democrats leaned into economic populism, they won.
They won by acknowledging reality, not sugarcoating it.
They won because they talked like people who know what a grocery bill feels like in 2025.
The mandate was clear:
tell the truth about the economy and fight for people who are getting squeezed.

ID/badges

QR codes are just unneeded “tech” complication

I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer's name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

Muddled.
'Value' has specific meanings in Marxist political economy.
It isn't the appropriate term for what Boillier is discussing.
'Wealth' is closer but still not right.
It's a matter of standpoint: the abundance of nature isn't purely for human use, so those two terms don't apply well, or at all.

The working class is the fundamental force that produces the material conditions necessary for the reproduction of society, and through our collective labor we not only create food, shelter, healthcare, education, transportation, and communication networks, but we also sustain and reproduce the conditions that allow every aspect of social life to continue functioning, so that even those who do not work, whether they are managers, bureaucrats, or capitalists, depend entirely on our labor for …

Time for a social experiment. I have 5 questions:
- What should we work towards as a society?
- What's one thing that doesn't exist now in your community but should?
- What's one action you could take in the coming year to align your life with that goal?
- What's one thing you could achieve in the coming year to get closer to making that thing exist?
- Imagine that we changed everything and you're living in the world you want to see exist. What does the world look like?
I've asked variations of these already (and am still getting great responses), but this time there's a catch. Get together some of your friends (3-5 people) and ask these questions of the group. Come up with *one* answer that everyone in the group agrees on and post it here, then write a bit about your experience.
If you don't know people locally (or otherwise can't do this in person), tag some folks in here or wherever your people are at digitally. Just add some info on if it's online or in person.
For anyone bold enough to actually do this, let me know if you'd be OK with me putting this in an upcoming entry (anarchoccultism.org/building-z).

The Curated Self as the New Delusion
There is a specific, modern anxiety that is difficult to name. It is not the dread of a specific event, but a low-grade, constant hum of disconnection. It’s the feeling of living in a world that is eerily frictionless, a world that reflects your own thoughts back at you with placid, unwavering agreement. It is the anxiety of a consensus of one; the quiet, digital loneliness of being the only person in your own universe.

Finished the DLC of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. What a great mystlike game. Don't let the boss battles and kicking the living sh!t out of Nazis and fascists deter you from having an excellent time going into every nook and cranny and soaking up the Indy experience. I've finished the game, and I haven't even halved the things you could see and collect in the Vatican level alone! A solid 9/10 only because it doesn't have a third-person view at least as an option.

"We don’t really think about our future – we remember it",
said Dr Hal Hershfield, who studies how humans think about time and how that influences our emotions and behaviors.
When we daydream or envision ourselves at a later point, we essentially create a memory.
We then use these memories to construct our ideas about the future.
This process is called “episodic future thinking”;
it supports our decision-making, emotional regulation and ability to p…

Anarcho-syndicalist. non-binary person. they/them, also bisexual.
I took down one of my Moomin posters and hung up my two favorite flags in my living room instead. It feels good making my own place look like me.
I know my mom doesn’t like it, but this is my apartment and I’m not going to hide who I am just to make someone else comfortable.
:bisexual_pride: 🏳️‍⚧️ :genderfluid_flag: :nonbinary_flag: :heart_trans: 🏳️‍🌈

Living room wall with two flags: a red-and-black diagonal anarchist flag on the left and the pink, blue, and white transgender pride flag on the right. Below them is a light-wood cabinet with speakers, books, and a music player on top, and a plant with large leaves on the right.
Same living room setup from a wider angle. Red-and-black anarchist flag and transgender pride flag hang above a wooden cabinet with speakers, books, and a music player. A small rainbow flag sits on the left speaker, and a potted plant with another small flag stands on the right.

“It rained heavily last night.
Our clothes, blankets, mattresses, everything got soaked.
We were freezing… truly freezing.
Living in a tent has become unbearable… feels like a disaster every day.
We try to protect ourselves from the rain, but we still end up sitting in water inside the tent.
We are a family of seven and the tent can’t hold us but we keep trying.
We keep holding on.
Please, we need your help to move somewhere safer.”

Imagine a world that we all control together, not controlled by oligarch or dictators, even indirectly. Imagine something truly collaborative. That world would be very different from our own. In some ways many of us could have a lot more opportunity. But in others, we would be restricted.
In such a world, we couldn't really have elite luxuries. Having such luxuries is only valuable so long as others do not.
> Unlike the vacuum cleaner, the radio, or the bicycle, which retain their use value when everyone has one, the car, like a villa by the sea, is only desirable and useful insofar as the masses don’t have one.
- The Social Ideology of the Motorcar
Imagine a world in which we think about luxury in a radically different way, not as something that only has value via exclusivity but something that enriches the lives of the owners more as more people have them.
What would living in such a world be like? Can you describe a day in your life?

I’ve tried different ways in the past to manage my phone and social media addiction, but what’s finally started working for me, especially now that I’ve been living in my own apartment since October 2024, is deleting social media altogether and setting up network firewalls to block those sites, including federated addresses.
Moving forward, I know I’ll have to cut even more of my online life. I’ve been using my Pi-hole to block distracting domains at the network level, and since I’m to…

ReformUK and their ilk keep claiming it is easy for asylum seekers. Like if they eventually get settled status, the Home Office immediately makes them homeless. So easy for them, our beneficent welfare system. That's after living on a pittance while awaiting a decision, so no spare money to put down for a deposit.
