Innovative Jewish community leader Yocheved Sidof (#Purim

A woman wearing a headscarf and large earrings shares a mix of reflections about the Purim that we just celebrated: Some words of gratitude for the Ohmek Living community, reflections on her ancestors and their connection to the holiday, her decision to read the Megillah this year, and the idea that Mordechai expressed to Esther: Who knows if this is what you were born for? Esther lived her life as a walking prayer, and we must follow her example.

The one interesting thing about living only 45 minutes south of the Canadian border is that our daughters now have a lot of experience going back and forth through border crossings, presenting passports, answering questions from serious border people, etc.
Not something they might have experienced as frequently if we lived in, say, Nebraska, or somewhere else more in the middle of the country.

She was very very kind. Spent her life caring for her large family while living on a farm in Ontario. Later in life she liked McDonald's, and her great grand children. 😊
Miss you Oma!

Hold the phone.
Do cyanoacrylates (CA glue/“supeglue”) dissolve or interact with PLA?!
I’ve created hundreds of living hinge foldables models with PLA and it generally works great.
I had some squeeze out when dropping in the magnets, so I just spread it over the surface so it would dry faster. On the first fold it snapped and the PLA layer is just… gone.
You can see where the CA glue didn’t get the hinge is fine (with some stress normal discoloration).

A blue 3d printed object with two magnets held in a hand. 3 folds are visible; on the left the living hinges show discolouring, but are in tact, on the right there is CA glue residue and the hinge is just just gone.

Important article here. Is yimby success distorting inflation statistics?
Here's the issue: Legalizing apartments increases supply of apartments but not of 1-family houses. So it will lower rent on apts more than on houses.
For owner-occupied housing, cost-of-living index measures the cost of renting a similar home. So housing cost index reflects mostly 1-family house rents, even though renters live more in apartments.

This summer there will three babies born here, one to a couple living in a shepherd's hut, one to a couple living in an old caravan, one who will be living in a yurt. This is us erecting the yurt.
In much of remote rural Scotland, people of child-bearing age cannot afford homes.

Wall trellis erected. The yurt is being erected on tarpaulins which are covered in carpet which in turn is being covered in linoleum. I am anxious that this will not be sufficient if we have a wet summer, but it's better than nothing.
Frame of the roof erected. This went pretty quickly.
Framework covered with old bedsheets.
Bedsheets covered with insulating felt.

“When Bangladesh’s Minimum Wage Board met in November 2023 to decide wages for garment workers, trade unions called for a monthly Living Wage of 23,000 taka (approx £172), given that the previous wage of 8,000 taka (£60) was a poverty wage that made fruit a luxury item. Don't get me wrong about the linked news bulletin on public sector wages. I am very very very happy and grateful (especially to my Union!) to be getting a 3% raise as of April 1st. This is one of the biggest single-year raises I’ve had in 23.5 years working at VIU.
But the cost of a loaf of bread has increased by 100%, and no I am not exaggerating, in the past year alone so....

My latest blog.
Why have people called this "brilliant," "gorgeous," "beautiful"?
And said "Your posts are always good. But this one was especially good."?
I guess you'll just have to find out for yourself!
