Some easy to use, fast and compatible alternatives are Firefox (cross-platform) or Safari on macOS/iOS.
Also more esoteric browsers based on Firefox like LibreWolf or the Tor Browser; I can't vouch for these as I don't use them personally.

The main reasons for me to use Safari on macOS despite being behind on web standards is integration with its iOS siblings and performance.
However: bookmark sync is unreliable and relatedly reading list is so janky too that I switched to GoodLinks. And somehow the UI gets increasingly sluggish until I restart it like an old Windows system.
I guess it's time for an experiment.

About a year and a half ago, with the release of macOS 14 Sonoma, #Apple killed third-party Mail plugins. Apple did offer an alternative framework called extensions, but extensions can’t do all the things plugins once could.

Weil Lightroom nicht mehr auf MacOS X funktioniert, bin ich umgestiegen auf Darktable. Der Umstieg ist nicht leicht, vor allem weil bei allen Fotos die “Ausgewählt”-Markierung (Picked) fehlte. Ich habe einen Weg gefunden, die Daten auszulesen, ohne Lightroom zu öffnen. Das eröffnet den Weg, die Markierungen auch in Darktable wieder nutzbar zu machen

Ran into a weird issue with macOS and iTerm 2 while experimenting with #talos over the weekend.
Short version: I had to quit iTerm, reset the local network security permission for it and restart it before I could run talosctl from my a session in iTerm. Maddeningly it was working from a session in Terminal.app

There are finally real USB3 (not Thunderbolt, not USB4 PCIe Tunneling) 10GbE NICs!
RTL8159 chipset-based, it uses the generic cdc_ncm driver on Linux.
Also seems to work on macOS and iOS.
TCP throughput between GPD Pocket 4 and MacBook Pro M1 seems a bit low at ~6.2 GBit/s, but that might also be due to the connected devices (both sides are using the same adapter).
I don't have another 10GBit/s device here right now, sorry.

Having had a while to work with it, I think my big takeaway from the new windowing stuff on iPadOS is that… it pretty much _never_ does what I want with window management? It *should* work like MacOS, but it doesn’t, and it doesn’t in wildly unpredictable and surprising ways?

The MacBookPro disaster is complete, more or less.
The problem: after installing macos 26.0.1 the MBP failed to reboot successfully. It kept going to the apple logo and the progress bar stopped, and eventually the mac went to Recovery Mode.
Tried:
1. re-install macos Tahoe - no luck.
2. reset NVRAM
3. reset SMC
4. re-install from Time Machine backup on NAS. Took 44 hours.
