From recent discussions on Panix, I immediately wonder how often you back up that SD card to multiple locations.
They make external SSDs now that are orders of magnitude faster than an SD card, but that might or might not suit your purpose (or be worth your time and money).

D-party congress critters ought to begin drafting bills to dismantle DHS.
DHS, including its highly nazi-flavored name, was constructed by a Congress and president (bush) who were terrified after 9/11.
It is time to pull the pieces of DHS apart, retaining some parts, deleting other parts (such as ICE), and reshaping the rest.

After some time in preparation, and following an initial attempt to prioritise the allocation of network capacity, the Dutch NRA has now taken a (and this time: own) decision.
Priority for 'congestion softeners', safety, healthcare, housing etc.

Congestive softener
A congestion softener is a party whose network operator, on the basis of the most up-to-date data from Annex 14, paragraph 1, determines that the allocation of transport capacity to this party leads to an increase in the available transport capacity, as referred to in Article 9.5, paragraph 4, for other parties and does not lead to an increase in congestion in another network part of that network operator or in the network of another network operator.

Tried to make a square shape New York Cheesecake for the first time yesterday. It was meant to be shared at a party and I thought it would be easier to share in smaller pieces. It came out good I think. The base was solid enough to get the out of the pan. I also properly caramelized the top of the base so it doesn't soak as quickly

Except this took some time because of the size of the database and the fact that the backup software I have for the #PostgreSQL server needs to rewrite the entire database to restore older versions.

New on blog: "How we incidentally uncovered a 7-year old bug in gentoo-ci"
"""
“Gentoo CI” is the service providing periodic linting for the Gentoo repository. It is a part of the Repository mirror and CI project that I’ve started in 2015. Of course, it all started as a temporary third-party solution, but it persisted, was integrated into Gentoo Infrastructure and grew organically into quite a monstrosity.
It’s imperfect in many ways. In particular, it has only some degree of error recovery and when things go wrong beyond that, it requires a manual fix. Often the “fix” is to stop mirroring a problematic repository. Over time, I’ve started having serious doubts about the project, and proposed sunsetting most of it.
Lately, things have been getting worse. What started as a minor change in behavior of Git triggered a whole cascade of failures, leading to me finally announcing the deadline for sunsetting the mirroring of third-party repositories, and starting ripping non-critical bits out of it. Interesting enough, this whole process led me to finally discover the root cause of most of these failures — a bug that has existed since the very early version of the code, but happened to be hidden by the hacky error recovery code. Here’s the story of it.

The fracturing of the Dutch far-right, after Wilder's reminded everyone that bigots are bad at compromise, is definitely a relief. Dutch folks I've talked to definitely see D66 as progressive, <strike>so there's no question this is a hard turn to the left (even if it's not a total flip to the far-left)</strike> a lot of folks don't agree. I'm going to let the comments speak rather than editorialize myself..
While this is a useful example of how a democracy can be far more resilient to fascism than the US, that is, perhaps, not the most interesting thing about Dutch politics. The most interesting thing is something Dutch folks take for granted and never think of as such: there are two "governments."
The election was for the Tweede Kamer. This is a house of representatives. The Dutch use proportional representation, so people can (more or less) vote for the parties they actually want. Parties <strike>rarely</strike> never actually get a ruling majority, so they have to form coalition governments. This forces compromise, which is something Wilders was extremely bad at. He was actually responsible for collapsing the coalition his party put together, which triggered this election... and a massive loss of seats for his party.
Dutch folks do still vote strategically, since a larger party has an easier time building the governing coalition and the PM tends to come from the largest party. This will likely be D66, which is really good for the EU. D66 has a pretty radical plan to solve the housing crisis, and it will be really interesting to see if they can pull it off. But that's not the government I want to talk about right now.
In the Netherlands, failure to control water can destroy entire towns. A good chunk of the country is below sea level. Both floods and land reclamation have been critical parts of Dutch history. So in the 1200's or so, the Dutch realized that some things are too important to mix with normal politics.
You see, if there's an incompetent government that isn't able to actually *do* anything (see Dick Schoof and the PVV/VVD/NSC/BBB coalition) you don't want your dikes to collapse and poulders to flood. So the Dutch created a parallel "government" that exists only to manage water: waterschap or heemraadschap (roughly "Water Board" in English). These are regional bureaucracies that exist only to manage water. They exist completely outside the thing we usually talk about as a "government" but they have some of the same properties as a government. They can, for example, levy taxes. The central government contributes funds to them, but lacks authority over them. Water boards are democratically elected and can operate more-or-less independent of the central government.
Controlling water is a common problem, so water boards were created to fulfill the role of commons management. Meanwhile, so many other things in politics run into the very same "Tragedy of the Commons" problems. The right wing solution to commons management is to let corporations ruin everything. The left-state solution is to move everything into the government so it can be undermined and destroyed by the right. The Dutch solution to this specific problem has been to move commons management out of the domain of the central government into something else.
And when I say "government" here, I'm speaking more to the liberal definition of the term than to an anarchist definition. A democratically controlled authority that facilitates resource management lacks the capacity for coercive violence that anarchists define as "government." (Though I assume they might leverage police or something if folks refuse to pay their taxes, but I can't imagine anyone choosing not to.)
As the US federal government destroys the social fabric of the US, as Trump guts programs critical to people's survival, it might be worth thinking about this model. These authorities weren't created by any central authority, they evolved from the people. Nothing stops Americans from building similar institutions that are both democratic and outside of the authority of a government that could choose to defund and abolish them... nothing but the realization that yes, you actually can.

Kimi Onoda, Japan's new Minister of State for Economic Security, is a 43 year old half-Irish ex-game industry PR femcel with an extensive history of defending her exclusive attraction to anime boys on twitter

I don't think it's twisted at all.

I'm a woman who likes men, and I'm not interested in 3D men.

That's all.
I apologize for rambling on. I just couldn't stay silent... I really wish I had more allies within the party...

From here on, this is completely my personal opinion, but fundamentally, people who truly love 2D wouldn't touch 3D at all. I myself have absolutely no interest in 3D and consider it out of bounds. Maybe that kind of feeling is something only those involved can understand.
"Hurry up and get married," "Have kids" I've been told this by voters since my 20s, but even at 40, I still sigh every time these words are thrown at me. At what age will I finally be free of this?

In the 3D world, I'm married to my country, and besides, I've said my private life is 2D-exclusive, haven't I!! I'll say it over and over: I'm 2D-exclusive!!
I've been saying this for a while now, but I don't consider 3D (real-life) people as romantic prospects. I'm dead serious, not joking. For me, the very act of someone seeing the "possibility of marriage" in me is inherently uncomfortable (quoted from a reply)-it's the same as if you were to suggest to a gay person that they marry someone of the opposite sex... If you can understand it that way, that would help. This isn't about sexual harassment or anything like that; it's a deep-seated discomf…

What are you going to do when the regime falls? After calling all your friends, after the great memes, after the parties, what are you going to do to make sure it never happens again? What world should we create?
Taxing billionaires is great and all, but we could build systems where billionaires are impossible. Is hoarding wealth and using it to control people even something we should consider part of a functional and humane system? Any system where one group of people doesn't have rights means that anyone can be stripped of their rights, like has happened with all the US citizens who've been illegally detained and deported by ICE. Does the concept of "rights" that must be defended with violence, that can be stripped away by people who can exercise more violence, even make sense? Or should the bedrock of a functional system be the obligations that we have to each other and to society, that cannot be severed or taken from us, that tell us we *must* defend regardless of whether systemic oppression will impact us or not?
Americans have been so restricted by the limitations of the two party system, only able to choose between options acceptable to different sections of the capitalist class. Would we even be able to imagine what we could do if those restrictions went away?
The fall of the Berlin wall was a surprise. The fall of Assad was faster than anyone expected. One day the government of Nepal was an unrepentant oligarchy, the next it was on fire. Everything can change in an instant, faster than anyone expects. No one can predict revolutionary change. Will you be ready if the opportunity presents itself?
The US cannot be fixed. The economic system is a ponzi scheme that has been patched again and again, but has finally run out of options. Racism, sexism, and Christian nationalism are baked into the system at every level. Trump gutted the system of soft power that held the US economy together, now there is only a slow decline. Even after he's gone, the damage is done. Once we let go of how to fix something that cannot be fixed, we can start to imagine something that cannot be achieved within the current system.
This is a time of opportunity. Do not burrow so deep in terror that you miss your chance to dream.

If you are trying to figure out the Cowichan Lands court ruling and what it means for private property, this article by the CBC's always-excellent court-reporter Jason Proctor, is, again, excellent.
This tidbit was particularly illuminating and should raise questions as to why we are in this state of 'panic' now:
"Back in 2017, Canada's Attorney General sought an order requiring the Quw'utsun to notify third-party homeowners, but the judge overseeing proceedings at the time rejected the application after the Quw'utsun said they weren't seeking title or possession of any private lands.
"However," Justice Jennifer Power wrote, "my decision does not prevent any of the defendants from providing informal notice to private landowners if they wish to do so.””
ie. Richmond, the Province, and others should have told the landowners not only that this court process was happening, but most importantly that *their property titles* were not being threatened!

Is there an Albertan leader of any party willing to utter the words:
"Maybe the vagaries of Oil and Gas prices is not what we should base our provincial budget on. Perhaps it is time to look at something else.”
