From my hike last Sunday.
This moment, when you turn around and see the summit that you're heading to for the first time and think "hm - still quite a bit to go"

This image captures a serene and rugged forest landscape, bathed in the soft, warm light of either early morning or late afternoon. The scene is framed by tall evergreen trees, their branches reaching upward and creating a natural canopy. The sunlight filters through the trees, casting a gentle glow and long shadows across the forest floor.
The foreground features a rocky, uneven terrain with a mix of exposed rocks, dry grass, and patches of green vegetation. A faint path can be seen winding it…

Got a Labu lawn robot a while back here and wow have to say this thing is much nicer than I imagined.
I previously had Hasqvarna here quoting obscene amounts and then went to put aerials, wires and all sorts of shit here. Totally unworkable. We redo what areas here we cut and do things in every year.
Labu just works plus it’s AWD and doesn’t mind my rough terrain - Hasqvarna wanted to spend 2k to flatten the lawn so their machines can work

The Consciousness Trilogy: Reading Three Wagers on the Question We Cannot Settle
This page exists for readers who want a map of the consciousness sequence published on BolesBlogs in the spring of 2026. Three articles, taken together, cover the contemporary terrain on the deepest question philosophy still asks. Each can be read alone. Read in sequence, they form a coordinated treatment of the consciousness problem that points beyond any single solution toward what the…

“Corollary 1 (AoE II is Turing-Complete). Let I be an instance of AoE II with two players p0,p1. Assume p0 has two markets, a town centre, a trade cart, six villagers, and five farms; while p1 has a scout unit and only attacks p0’s buildings. Then if I has no time or size limits and the terrain allows for buildings everywhere, the game session in I is Turing-complete.”

B&W photo of a grand high alpine mountain landscape. A small road leading through grassy terrain in the foreground to a hut in a bend, after which the road is disappearing from view. Dark steep slopes with talus fields leading up to the large massif behind. Large & bare pyramidal rock faces higher up and layers of other peaks in the back. Semi-cloudy sky.

Graham Platner can be replaced as the Democratic nominee for Senate in Maine
⭐️ if he withdraws from the race by next Monday,

Maine Democrats would be in uncharted terrain if Mr. Platner does exit the contest
after a Politico report that he sexually assaulted a woman he had dated.
He denied the allegation but said he was taking time to “reflect” on his political path …

I hate the idea of not involving K in everything we do, which ultimately means that we don’t do much. Travel is hard and anything leaving paved areas for more than a few feet is close to impossible. But this… we could do.

This image captures a stunning and dynamic alpine landscape, showcasing the transition between seasons in a mountainous region. The foreground features a trail blanketed in patches of snow, winding its way through a terrain that is beginning to thaw. The snow's pristine white surface is interspersed with areas of exposed ground, hinting at the arrival of spring.

Flanking the trail are clusters of evergreen trees, their vibrant green foliage providing a striking contrast to the white snow. The …

I wanted to explore the topographic relief cartographic style that I did for Santorini, Greece, last year¹ and tried it on the Faroe Islands 🇫🇴.
One new thing is that I worked with @… terrain tiles instead of processing the raw NASADEM data.
Feedback and comments are requested! 🙏

Looking up at signs on a traffic sign pole. On the back of the pole, facing away from the camera, are two signs in shapes familiar with USA motorists: a letter X indicating a railroad crossing, and a triangle indicating a yield. Subsoil acidity causes long delays in inorganic carbon sequestration by Enhanced Weathering

Abstract: While a looming atmospheric CO$_2$ overshoot calls for immediate carbon sequestration, delays associated to Enhanced Weathering (EW) carbon dioxide removal are being investigated. Topsoil acidity is already known to delay EW carbon sequestration, but subsoil acidity remains underexplored. Using century-long agricultural liming of formerly acidic heathland as a proxy for EW, this study provides empirical evidence of subsoil-imposed delays. Below such limed terrain, we observed a downward-progressing front of topsoil-produced alkalinity that still requires 30-100 years to penetrate the approximately 5 m thick acidic sandy unsaturated zone and reach the groundwater table. Subsoil acidity thus may cause beyond-reasonable delays, prohibiting EW as a viable short-term carbon capture strategy even on topsoils made non-acidic by preceding liming. When planning EW schemes, the amounts of stored acidic cations in top- and subsoil, as well as the rate and composition of infiltrating water, controlling the duration of the delay, require careful assessment.

Carlos Garcia-Galan, program manager for NASA’s Moon Base program, said the LTVs will be
“a mix between the Apollo lunar roving vehicle and the Mars-style rover.”

📚 My book review of Concrete Hell: Urban Warfare From Stalingrad to Iraq
Two chapters are relevant, but incredibly thin on theory. The rest is a fairly well written overview of a number of urban operations scenarios, clearly chosen to stress the authors' point, whatever it may be. The whole thing has a sizable US slant. So yes. We have more cities, so wars might happen in places that require fighting in urban terrain. Also, water is wet.

I sooo often don't have photos of the summit cross when I go to the #mountains . Don't ask me why. Maybe because I usually have people in the photo?
It was the same that day: I almost left without that photo when I stepped over the flowers and thought that they might be a cool foreground for the summit. And by focusing on the flowers and blurring the people, I also don't hav…

This image captures a serene and picturesque mountain summit, blending natural beauty with a touch of human presence. The foreground is dominated by vibrant blue gentian flowers, their striking color standing out against the rugged, rocky terrain. The flowers are in sharp focus, drawing the viewer's attention to their delicate petals and adding a sense of vitality to the scene.

The background features a wooden cross, a common marker for mountain peaks, standing tall against the clear blue sky.…
