I missed this in the midst of everything else last week, but of course the Trump Administration has killed the questions on sexual orientation and gender identity in NSF's Survey of Earned Doctorates, which were only put in place after YEARS of effort by advocates

On the orders of the Donald Trump administration, National Park Service employees hung two highly controversial signs this week at Manzanar National Historic Site, a museum examining the property’s former role as a prison where the U.S. government incarcerated more than 10,000 Japanese Americans during World War Two

Mom is still very confused. For part of today I think I was my uncle Frank. She’s also unsteady on her feet and chafing at restrictions not to get out of bed or a wheelchair without staff assistance. If anything, this is worse than before her trip to the hospital last week.

This grassy field has always been a beautiful buffer between the river and the train tracks that service the local waste management company that owns it. This time of year, wildflowers and butterflies are everywhere and it’s one of the highlights on this part of the greenway.
This week, I’ve noticed it’s suddenly begun to accumulate vintage fire and rescue vehicles. I don’t know what to make of it, but I hope it’s temporary.

A vintage white rescue vehicle marked "Greenbackville VFD Rescue Virginia" is parked in a grassy area. The vehicle features red and gold lettering and has a distinctive shape, typical of emergency response units. Lush greenery surrounds the vehicle, with trees visible. Greenbackville is a six hour drive to the very NE corner of the state, practically Delaware.
A vintage red fire truck with an extended ladder is parked in a grassy area, surrounded by trees. The truck has "Greever's Drug Store" written on its side.

I’m on vacation with my family this week and purposefully not delving into the news or reading anything on social media besides my happy word games. But I sure hope I come home to a democratic society governed by the rule of law.

The Trump people have just announced that they have sent a letter to Columbia’s accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, accusing Columbia of being in violation of civil rights law.
My initial reaction is that this is good news since it implies both that Columbia hasn’t further caved-in yet and makes clear that the Trump people have run out of ammunition

For this week's #MusicWomenWednesday, something with some real female RAGE. For the last couple days since it came out, I've been thoroughly enjoying Kitchener, Ontario's hardcore quintet BODY MINUS HEAD's debut LP 'An Exercise in Self-Sufficiency'. The whole band is tight and solid, but vocalist Alexandra Garvin really shines on this one. Her screams are unreal, and at …

The foreign nationals under consideration hail from a range of countries.
They include hundreds from friendly European nations, including Britain, Italy, France, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, the Nethe…

or ‘We’ve had this discussion before and we just don’t want to,’” she said
