Years ago, I was working for a non-profit on a contract basis (illegally on their part, since I should've been classified as an employee under state law; that's what we call a red flag, folks). I'd never met the executive directory (ED), but he was in the office one day.
I was showing my boss the kernel driver I'd just gotten working, and demoing it working on the prototype hardware. My boss calls in the ED to show him as well. The ED is impressed. (1/2)

Working on improving error reporting in ngscopeclient rather than having filters simply silently produce no output, or log to stdout, when something goes wrong.
Here's my current WIP: the block that has problems displays a warning icon and summary title up top, then you can mouse over it to see more detailed error information.
Thoughts? Anything I should change before I start working on adding this sort of feedback to more filter blocks?

Screenshot of a ngscopeclient filter graph with an eye pattern block displaying an exclamation point icon and the text "missing inputs" above it. A tooltip next to this message reads "No clock input connected".

We hear a lot of talk about “freedom” from my Republican colleagues.
And yet these same Republicans are working overtime to deny tens of millions of women the basic freedom to control their own bodies.
That is wrong, and it represents a fundamental betrayal of what freedom is about.

So I've a medical thing that I need to buy once a month on Amazon and they cancelled my subscription delivery for it last time (but not the subscription itself), without telling me.
I tried to just order it for one time delivery, but the delivery date was a month out and they immediately cancelled my order.
My wife told me to use my developer brain—and yes, imagining a bug with some row in a database being in a fugue state, the exactly a month out delivery date being the biggest hint to something going into a default state when a calculation fails.
So I removed the subscription to the item (they make it hard to find where to do this).
Bingo: I can now order immediately for delivery in two days and for working subscrpition delivery.

Many years ago I was working with a friend to find a bug in a Makefile generator. We had a megabyte or so of Makefile we needed to examine. He was an emacs user. It took him minutes just to open the file. I was using sam. It took about a second for sam to load, and I found the problem before he'd even finished loading the file.
The speed of tools matters, and big files are common nowadays. Things should stay fast as their workload grows. That goes double for interactive tools.
By the way, it still takes me 30 seconds to log in to my bank. I wonder how long it will take when it's an LLM-generated landing page.

Started the official rewrite of the Sisyphus client in #golang, working on getting the Ffmpeg command-line tasks parsed and validated against the schema. This should make things easier to distribute with respect to the client as I can just distribute static binaries.

So, The Core (in no particular order):
1. Slackware with nwg-shell Sway, Niri and Mango
2. Gentoo dwm
3. Aurorix, my KDE container spin.
4. FreeBSD 15 with Mango
5. Slackware Flatbrew, a KDE QT6 experimental iso, with Brew and Flatpaks (thnx @… 😉)
All working superbly.

Doea anyone know of any organizations in the greater Seattle area working to eliminate, or at least oppose the further proliferation of, unnecessary urban lighting? One of my favorite places to go in the city at night is now full of street lights. The whole reason I loved it is that it was *dark* and you could look out across the water without glare everywhere.
Not every beachfront bike path needs to be lit up like a sports stadium. It's a waste of electricity, contributes to light…

Got this computer in an estate sale a while ago and it just booted up first try!!1!
Only thing not working is CD eject.
Also the case of this DELL has extremely brittle plastic, a part of it just crumbled when I picked it up.
Still amazing that it just sprang to life though.

There was this mention in the Budgie 10.10 release announcement of ending an era and working together in a very positive way with the KDE team.
What most people, including yours truly, missed was the mention of QT6 as the new development platform of choice for Budgie 11! Part of Frameworks is already in 10.10, and a totally new architecture will be build for Wayland, QT and Budgie. Exciting times!
