Honestly, you know what some blue state governors should do?
Send their NG troops to DC to "help."
Openly say that they trust their troops more than SC and OH troops to obey the law and know what's allowed and what's not,

Every criticism of Israel,
any sympathy for the Palestinians,
any pressure to end the war,
is seen today as a form of antisemitism
– even endorsement of Hamas.
Over 60% of Israelis, according to recent polls, believe “nobody in Gaza is innocent.”
Along with Israel’s sense of impunity, this popular notion explains how this war has turned into a genocide.
The core of Palestinian identity, most Israelis believe, is the physical destruction of their stat…

Anyone else getting these ridiculous repo scraping spikes? A clean checkout of the thi.ng/umbrella monorepo is ~370MB. Over the past 14 days there were 222k clones (only 117 unique) of this repo which have caused downloads of a whopping ~78TB. WTF! 🤯

Screenshot of a Github activity line plot showing the number of daily clones per day over the past 14 days. In the past week the number of daily clones went up to 60k+ for 2 days, with the total number of clones for the entire timespan 222,356 with only 117 unique cloners.

Lechrauschen.
...at the place where the river Lech emerges from the Alps and drops into a narrow rocky canyon just outside Füssen... The canyon was formed around 12,000 years ago at the end of the Würm glaciation.
(Recorded last Friday for #WaterfallWednesday :)
#Video

A short video showing a large 30 meter wide waterfall (originally natural, but meanwhile re-engineered for hydro energy purposes) filmed from the footbridge above the pool and panning slowly upward. Intense water flow, spray & volume. The water color is milky gray/green.

Out & about in the Bernina Range, on our way to the Labyrinth, surrounded by majestic 4000ers (meters)... A dream! 😍
(#ThrowbackThursday, preemptive #FootpathFriday and my personal hiking highlight of 2024)

A glacier side moraine with an almost imperceptible path on its ridge is leading into a sea of ice, rocks and snow in the not so far distance. The massive glacier is just a few dozen meters below from where the picture was taken. It flows & drops down from the peaks in the back (all ~4000m and around 1300m higher up for my position), forming a maze of large seracs on the way. Sunny day with blue sky and some wispy clouds.
View across a large glacier (from the same moraine & position as other photo) towards the opposite side of the valley with its 4000m peaks, hidden below a thick layer of snow and ice, some side glaciers and bare major rock faces dusted in snow. Some dried brown grass in the bottom-right corner.

Piz Cambrena (3607m) and its glacier viewed from Bernina Pass at sunset, two weeks ago... A sliver of Lago Bianco in the foreground.

Photo of a glaciated mountain massif (Piz Cambrena) in a vast high alpine landscape. The two main branches of its glacier have largely retracted and only the higher up parts are now just feeding several waterfalls flowing through the exposed bedrock further below. Steep bare rock slopes, giving way to rolling meadows of brown dried grass near the pass. A sliver of the large mountain lake at the foot of the mountain is visible at the bottom of the image with a path leading around the lake. Pink/…

My favorite blues and snow white sands near Crodon di San Candido (October 2024)
#SilentSunday #LandscapePhotography #Photography

A small, shallow high alpine lake with clear royal blue water surrounded by a talus field of white sands/pebbles, located on a high plateau with autumn colored grasses in front of the large mountain massif of Crodon di San Candido. A big fluffy cloud is nestled around the mountain peaks. Otherwise beautiful blue sky.

Not quite Canadian Shield, but close... and at much higher elevation (~2300m)
(Another impression from the same region from yesterday's pictures, see description there...)
#MountainMonday #LandscapePhotography

A tundra-like scene of (a section of) some enormous sloped boulders, smoothed and scraped off by thousands of years of glacial movement, now slowly overgrown by beautiful dry, orange grasses and small trees (larches), which are also slowly taking on their autumn colors. The rocks have a pinkish brown color with yellow/green lichens growing in some regions. The background is a uniform green-gray color, i.e. the color of the glacier lake with its milky water and some very, very faint reflections.

Having just finished a 1-year consulting contract myself, my own list of restrictions for future jobs/consulting is very similar:
- will not work on adtech/surveillance/weapons
- will not knowingly make world worse and/or abet genocides
- will not be forced to use vibe coding (or will explain cost implications)
- prefer to work in the open
- prefer remote only
- flexible with time zones (last role was for a company in LA, -9h)

Langtauferer
Today, a year ago, I ventured on a dream trip I'd been researching for a long time, and which ended up being a semi-religious experience, being immersed in (and somewhat overwhelmed by) an actively changing environment, the upheaval and plethora of geological features, structures, unreal colors, layers, textures and the "wounds" exposed by the melting and disappearing glaciers... Countless waterfalls, stunning erosion features, later traversing the glacier ga…

Photo of the upper part of a glacial valley with large mountain peaks (some 3700+ meters) and remaining glaciers and icefields. The vivid colors are purely the result of the polarization filter used, but also nicely show the variety of rock types and minerals (rock colors vary from pale gray to orange, deep rust, black). The main arm of the glacier is curving down in the left side of the image, it's gate visible (a close up in the next image). In the front a fragment of the semi-eroded old side…
Close up view (from a few hundred meters above) of the Langtauferer glacier gate and a beautiful river delta of the milky blueish-gray creek of another glacier (next image) which terminates higher up by now. The ice is characteristically blue, heavily crevassed and crumbling at the front. A word about scale: One of the larger detached ice fragments is ~2.5 meters tall.
Abstract looking photo of a section of the south-western edge the Gepatschferner (Austria's second largest glacier), which used to be connected here (as a major ice fall) to the Langtauferer glacier. Now only several large waterfalls are remaining, dropping over the exposed rock faces 300 meters down into the valley. The ice is pale blue with large seracs (approx. 50-100 meters thick at the edge). Some snow patches are a pale pink/orange, traces of Sahara sand...
Top down view of the Langtauferer outflow section of the valley, showing a patch work of different textures/rocks and colors from grassy slopes, talus fields in shades of gray, orange, beige, rust. The milky grey glacier creek meandering through it all from left to right. A small pool of crystal clear intensely green-blue water nearby. The entire scene feels like an abstract painting

These app component interact with each other via registrations and delegations. A separate box "CLI RPC" relates to a separate client app which only interacts with the app server and is used as remote frontend for invoking commands inside the (much longer running) main app.
