Sonnenberg ridge entirely living up to its name...
(Made the most of the last warm weather yesterday afternoon to hike/climb along this beautiful long ridge with many cliffs, roped sections, some cute chamois and hardly any people — temporarily felt like late August, yet in two days supposedly snow starting...)

My plans to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing were derailed by two days of rain and high winds, so we made a plan B: the Tama lakes track, which has somewhat less exposure but still gets up over 1400m. We’re lucky we didn’t try Tongariro given how tough the conditions were at Tama lakes – driving snow and winds on the ridge. But we were rewarded with good views and improving weather on the return trip. #hiking

Tried to make a square shape New York Cheesecake for the first time yesterday. It was meant to be shared at a party and I thought it would be easier to share in smaller pieces. It came out good I think. The base was solid enough to get the out of the pan. I also properly caramelized the top of the base so it doesn't soak as quickly

Während in Minneapolis am helllichten Tag Menschen von ICE entführt werden, Menschen auf offener Straße von ICE ermordet werden, treffen sich Faschist*innen aus verschiedenen Ländern, koordinieren sich, und planen, wie sie die Demokratie zersetzen und ihre menschenverachtenden Fantasien umsetzen.

I regularly get random animals (well, mainly cats and foxes) come and stare at me outside my studio. That is already uplifting, but today was especially good in in that one actually came in and stayed for a while. Hopefully it’ll not be the last time. My next mission is for a fox to do the same. Anyone know how to befriend a fox?

A manhattan street corner at night. It's fairly dark (what's up w/ the lack of lights??), but along the border of the sidewalk are some metal bollards that are rectangles on one side, and 5 sides on the other (one sloped side that you can lean on) on the other. They're spaced about 3ft apart, and they're probably 15" wide. One bollard basically divides the sidewalk in half.

Another angle of the bollards, this time taken FROM the street corner towards the end of the block. The bollards extend the entire length of the block, at least 30 metal bollards visible but you can't really see how many more go down due to distance and people walking on the sidewalk. The vertical side of the bollards face out towards the street, and then 45deg angled side faces towards the building.

Another shot taken from the street corner, this time facing the street and crosswalk. One bollard sits in the middle of the curb ramp top landing, which is absolutely an ADA violation. The ramp tactile mat also faces out towards the middle of the intersection rather than facing the crosswalks, but again - fuck disabled people, amirite?

But at least the bollards are nice!

Time to investigate my dad's turntable; a Pioneer PL-15R; so at 33.33RPM, and with a disk with 64 edges, that should be 33.33/60*64=35.6Hz - so seeing 35.7Hz off my hacky photodiode sensor makes me very happy; although it's varying a little, but my scopes frequency counter is based off it's display, so hmm. And it's FFT won't go down that low really.

PCIe any% speedrun, day 5:
Incoming configuration write TLPs are acknowledged at the data link layer, then converted into APB write transactions which are thrown away by a stubbed-out completer that acknowledges them.
Next step will be to send PCIe completion TLPs so the transaction will complete end to end.

Managed to put the new Pi music player together before leaving work today. Got it set up with remote control and a quick test of playback. Next stop: Speaker mounting and figuring out if I should bet on physical security through obscurity by making it not easily visible or using a moderately long RCA cable. What’s a reasonable cable length with decent quality cables?

Went ahead and resoldered the pins connecting the EPROM to the cart as it looked like I had rushed slightly when putting everything together. Got the SNES hooked up to the TV and after standard cartridge stuff the game fired right up! Looks like I can put the programmer away for the time being.

Phanpy doesn't support quoots yet, so I'm using Mastodon's stock web interface and.. it's bad. Compare how busy it looks with unnecessary stuff (do I really need a "post" input form on screen at all times? Do I need a link to "favorites" visible at all times?), but also - the fonts are bad. Bad, bad, bad. Just so much harder to read. And the timeline toots just kind of run together, rather than being clearly delineated by whitespace in phanpy.

Soccer House is a soccer-only clubhouse designed
exclusively for soccer fans in Chicago's West Town
neighborhood.
It will be where you'll want to be to watch early-morning
kickoffs, derby days, cup finals, and that midweek
Conference League match in Portugal you absolutely need to
see with other sickos.

What games will you show?
As many as we possibly can! We'll obviously show the
biggest and best matchups from across the world each
weekend. Beyond that, our screens are soccer-only so the
Copa Libertadores never has to compete with the Cubs.
We'll also feature our local Fire and Stars prominently.
With multiple rooms, screens, and audio zones, different
games can run at the same time so we can pack the house
with as much soccer as possible.

Soccer House is a soccer-exclusive venue. It will be only
soccer (but we're happy for anyone to call it football). If
there isn't a game on, we'll have something else soccer-
