Cars are the reason SF’s tree canopy is so sparse.
This is typical. That’s gotta be, what, 200 feet without trees due to continuous driveways. And down the block the trees that are there are small, offering little shade. That’s because the sidewalk is too narrow for large, healthy, mature trees. And why’s it narrow? To fit a parking lane.
We can choose trees over cars, life over luxury transport.

And "The SFPD increased patrols in bipping hot spots like Fisherman’s Wharf starting in 2023. Cops also started using bait cars and building cases against major bipping gangs. " And that correlates with the fastest rate of decline - good, old fashioned policing.

TIL about the late Peter Gabel, who organized the movement to create the Noe Valley Town Square out of a parking lot, in part, by using "jackhammers to erase as many as 40 striped parking slots, which were replaced with paving stones." Hero.

I'm shocked that the mayor who hollowed out our Sunshine Task Force to avoid providing details on his Trump call, has endorsed a sexual predator.
Who could have seen that coming? #sfpol

This may be this year's second-best news for SF housing costs (passing Prop I will be the first).

At Rainbow they have purple bell peppers now so I totally bought one for the novelty factor. This is the biggest development in produce since purple carrots.

“Many…have argued against voting for the worst offenders on this list even where it means a Republican takes the seat. A Republican victory costs the community one seat for one term. A worst-offender victory teaches the party’s consultant class…that throwing transgender people under the bus is a winning strategy, and that lesson would be applied everywhere… One seat can be won back. Losing both parties cannot.” Sound analysis.

Talked to a 20something who moved to SF 3 years ago and runs on JFK Promenade. They were gobsmacked to learn it used to be a road full of cars and that we only just voted to make the promenade permanent right before they moved here. 🥲

"A month after San Francisco’s Fourth of July crowds overwhelmed streets and transit near the Presidio, Outside Lands presented another test: moving 75,000 people a day through the city. This one went considerably better"
Maybe it helps that Outside Lands happens every year as opposed to Daniel Lurie decreeing his dumb idea of doing fireworks by the GGB just a month before the event

not gonna be my top issue this election because my focus is guaranteeing $100m a year for affordable housing (yes on I!), but
the car-brain push to turn Sunset Dunes back into a road is very dumb!

Great news: my lack of support will cause ConnectedSF to fail at its mission to "fix" SF as it defines that. Best news I've read all day

Scott Wiener was the only Democrat in the Senate to vote against this bill closing a loophole that lets corporations not report toxic chemical discharges. Those others are all Republicans. #SB954 #sfpol

5/27/26 Senate floor vote tally for SB954. 23 yes, 9 no, 8 no vote recorded. The noes are: Alvarado-Gil, Choi, Grove, Jones, Ochoa Bogh, Seyarto, Strickland, Valladares, Wiener

I enjoy making claims that are technically true, but so overqualified as to sound ridiculous. For example, tuxedo cats have rarely been accepted to graduate programs in mathematics: less than 25 of them over the last decade.

Hoax alert: that legal threat supposedly sent by Flock to a discussion group telling them not to "analyze or speculate" about Flock's security vulnerabilities was made up by the group.
What Flock *actually* does is evil enough, so don't muddy the waters by making stuff up, geez. Also I was mildly suspicious of this but boosted it anyway so my bad I guess.

A few years ago when I saw a Muni bus rolling down the street I'd get so excited. My friends and I would chant, "Bus! Bus! Bus!" Now that they're all covered in ads for AI grifts, I've been robbed of this simple joy.
