So my car has been complaining I should put some exhaust emissions neutralizing fluid in it. A thing they call AdBlue I believe.
Bought a big 10l drum of the stuff ready to fill up.
But when I look at where I expect to find the hole for filling it, I just find a capped off tube and a warning sticker "See the GM Citreon Berlingo Blaze manual" for the adblue refilling hole.
Only user manual I have is the one telling me to expect it there.
The car was converted for wheelchair access at some point in its life. I think they are referring to the wheelchair-adaption manual, which the seller did not give me.
🤔
Have been looking around the car as much as I can for a couple of hours this morning to no avail. Where have they hidden this hole to fill up adblue?
Maybe it's under the engine or something now and you have to put the thing on stilts to find it?
🤷
Asked my mechanic about it and he says to bring it in on Monday. Gonna be a pain if I have to rip up the floorboards or something every year to refill that.

A cyberattack targeting check-in and boarding systems disrupted air traffic and caused delays at several of Europe’s major airports on Saturday.
While the impact on travelers appeared to be limited,
experts said the intrusion exposed vulnerabilities in security systems.
The disruptions to electronic systems initially reported at Brussels, Berlin’s Brandenburg and London’s Heathrow airports
meant that only manual check-in and boarding was possible.

New project post: AnotterKiosk
AnotterKiosk is another full-page web-browser OS for Pi's and other PCs, displays a webpage in full screen 24/7.
It has support for multi-touch input, a watchdog/heartbeat feature, local webserver, fully read-only root FS (won't kill SD cards, ever!), manual EDID overrides, configurable caching, reverse SSH tunnel support...
Can be used for signs, conference info screens, dashboards, home automation, etc.

Big TV screen, mounted on a brick wall, displaying a photo of a town hall
Small display, sitting on a wooden shelf, displaying a Victron solar inverter dashboard, with power flowing through the system

Me and my new #yubikey5 part 2:
Now we get to the nitty-gritty parts. I'm using #mbsync to sync multiple #imap accounts to local

Screenshot of a terminal in background showing a manual triggering of mbsync with one of my mail addresses, and a GTK window in foreground (pinentry-gtk) prompting me to insert the PIN to unlock my Yubikey to decript the passwords provided by the GPG encrypted password store from pass.
Full-screen terminal window showing the output from `journalctl -n0 -f` when I plug in the youbikey and wait while for the automatic mailsync service to trigger.

The output shows that while the Yubikey is inserted and properly recognized, when mbsyncer starts it asks for the PIN, but directly gets a `PIN callback returned error: IPC call has been cancelled` message, which in turn makes the decription fail, which leads to a skipping of the account in mbsync. And this will continue for the next …

A recurring issue:
Source of Truth vs Point of Truth with many-system setups.
Imagine having separate
- issue tracking (e.g. JIRA)
- time tracking (e.g. Toggl)
- development tracking (e.g. GitLab)
- daily team sync (e.g. Confluence)
- weekly sync with stakeholders (...)
Without diligent manual labor or a lot of handcrafted automation, those keep getting out of sync.

Yeah, so the GNU #make jobserver protocol is trivial, which can be a blessing and a curse. It puts the job management entirely on the clients, which means that they must reliably return job tokens, or otherwise the jobserver will be left with no jobs available and everything will hang. The make documentation is clear on this:
> Your tool should be sure to write back the tokens it read, even under error conditions. This includes not only errors in your tool but also outside influences such as interrupts (SIGINT), etc. You may want to install signal handlers to manage this write-back.
#NinjaBuild jobserver implementation may not handle this correctly, but fortunately it does. The irony is, it turns out that GNU make does not…

I was looking for my dishwasher manual. I noticed next to the manual, a link that said "Free Open Source Software". Curious, I clicked on it, and it's a long list of licenses and copyright information that is used in the dishwasher. Ctrl-F, and sure enough - my name's on the list.
I feel like I should have gotten a discount on the dishwasher, or at the very least access to its firmware source code! 🤠

Looking at the ARMv8-A ARM and I see implementer ID 0x44 is DEC.
I'm... very confident DEC has never built an ARMv8 CPU core.
Is this just copy-pasted from earlier docs because DEC had an ARM architecture license in years past? Or is this license still valid and held by DEC's successors (I think DEC -> Compaq -> HP -> HPE, does HPE make custom ARM cores?)

New on blog: "How we incidentally uncovered a 7-year old bug in gentoo-ci"
"""
“Gentoo CI” is the service providing periodic linting for the Gentoo repository. It is a part of the Repository mirror and CI project that I’ve started in 2015. Of course, it all started as a temporary third-party solution, but it persisted, was integrated into Gentoo Infrastructure and grew organically into quite a monstrosity.
It’s imperfect in many ways. In particular, it has only some degree of error recovery and when things go wrong beyond that, it requires a manual fix. Often the “fix” is to stop mirroring a problematic repository. Over time, I’ve started having serious doubts about the project, and proposed sunsetting most of it.
Lately, things have been getting worse. What started as a minor change in behavior of Git triggered a whole cascade of failures, leading to me finally announcing the deadline for sunsetting the mirroring of third-party repositories, and starting ripping non-critical bits out of it. Interesting enough, this whole process led me to finally discover the root cause of most of these failures — a bug that has existed since the very early version of the code, but happened to be hidden by the hacky error recovery code. Here’s the story of it.

  • 60 out of 100 times it’ll “sync” and freeze with all 4 LEDs on. The Wii U does a little beep but doesn’t show the controller and no inputs work.
  • 38 out of 100 times the same thing will happen but with all LEDs off
    • You need to remove the batteries in order to take the wiimotes out of these states
  • 2 out of 100 times the wiimotes actually connect, but show with 1 battery bar and almost no inputs go through (and the ones that do are extremely laggy, except for the power button)
    • The manual states that if this happens you can remove the batteries, wait 3 minutes and connect (without syncing) again. That does fixes it sometimes, but it really only worked once for each wiimote.
    • A truly successful connection only happens after the “low battery one”, and even then it seems to be hard to achieve for the first time.
      • Afterwards you’re supposed to be able to reconnect without syncing and then not encounter the issues anymore. That was true for the pink wiimote, but the blue wiimote had to be synced again. I spent quite a few hours trying and wasn’t able to get a successful connection.
      • If you connect the pink wiimote that was working when the other wiimote is in the 4 LEDs freeze state it’ll break the connection of the other one and make you need to sync it again
        • Now none of my aliexpress wiimotes are synced and idk when I’ll be able to sync them again

'fsadm' is a command line tool that can resize a filesystem and the underlying lvm or luks partition at the same time, for ext* and XFS. It avoids the need to remember to do the lvm lv resize, and the filesystem resize dance separately.

I'm sure that VMS is completely documented, I just haven't found the
right manual yet. I've been working my way through the manuals in the document
library and I'm half way through the second cabinet, (3 shelves to go), so I
should find what I'm looking for by mid May. I hope I can remember what it
was by the time I find it.
I had this idea for a new horror film, "VMS Manuals from Hell" or maybe
"The Paper Chase : IBM vs. DEC". It's based on Hitchcock's "The Birds", except
that it's centered around a programmer who is attacked by a swarm of binder
pages with an index number and the single line "This page intentionally left
blank."

The content is based on publicly reported facts, the Manual for Courts-Martial, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and the authors’ opinions.
Military law establishes a strong presumption that military orders are lawful and must be obeyed.
