One of the top stories on Hacker News today was a post arguing that Mozilla shouldn't accommodate any usage of AI in Firefox because (understandably) people were mad at Big AI companies for all the horrible things they've done to users and the internet and society. But I think people are ignoring the reality that *hundreds of millions of users* are using LLMs today, and they need to have tools from platforms that will look out for their interests.

However, Peach has been rescued, Bowser is defeated, and the world is a better place. I stopped the wedding, which I hasten to add wouldn't have been legally binding in any case as Peach was not entering it of her own free will.

So I've a medical thing that I need to buy once a month on Amazon and they cancelled my subscription delivery for it last time (but not the subscription itself), without telling me.
I tried to just order it for one time delivery, but the delivery date was a month out and they immediately cancelled my order.
My wife told me to use my developer brain—and yes, imagining a bug with some row in a database being in a fugue state, the exactly a month out delivery date being the biggest hint to something going into a default state when a calculation fails.
So I removed the subscription to the item (they make it hard to find where to do this).
Bingo: I can now order immediately for delivery in two days and for working subscrpition delivery.

I'm a white man. Was on Twitter throughout #BLM and gained an awful lot of free education from Black folks on there. That was the start of me consciously following diverse folks which is a strategy that's improved my life immensely.
Back on Twitter before the Muskening, there was a lot of diversity. Black Twitter was a thing, and not just first-world (anyone else remember "O jewa ke eng?"). When I went looking for people to follow to diversify my feed, I found them in abundance.
That's why it's so clearly false to me when people claim that the fediverse is secretly diverse, and why anyone making that claim sounds suspect to me. Sure there are a ton of great Black and other POC folks you can find on here, if you look hard. But it's nowhere near the levels of diversity and community that were on Twitter. Which you would know had you been following those people before, so now I have to assume you weren't, and wonder why you feel qualified to make statements about diversity even though you haven't made an effort to engage with diverse voices before?
Also, if you were actually following some of the excellent POC voices on here, you'd know that across different servers and interest groups, almost every group has had a discussion of #FediSoWhite at some point. If all the Black people you follow are independently talking about the lack of community and diversity here, you've either got to believe them or start putting on your clown makeup, and the later is absolutely a choice.

The Crew Motorfest: on the horizon

Today was… something. I woke with terrible leg pain, like the worst I’ve ever had. Tried everything to make it go away, nothing helped, I cried. When my partner awoke I asked if they could take me to urgent care. When we got there I was in such pain I could only lay flat on the waiting room floor. @… I was trying to do exactly that yesterday and it didn’t get it to work in all browsers, and then I just decided against it in the moment to make it consistent across browsers. I don’t think I’ve fully decided yet one way or the other but I kind of like the friction that this imposes, because it lets people think more on what is actually going on.

If you're unclear on why you have to load the video before you can play it it's because the first load only loads the image, title and channel name to make the page itself load much faster.

The person viewing is then allowed to make a more considered choice before activating the video. Perhaps you want to open the link an incognito window instead for example.

One great bonus to this embed is that it shows way less ads, if any.

Konstigt hur kroppen funkar. Plötsligt slog det mig att det nog var 10 år sedan jag höll mitt blixttal ’Det osynliga problemet med sagolika användarupplevelser’ på UX Open. Jag ser ofta det som startskottet för mitt arbete inom digital etik.

Så jag kollade. 16 oktober 2015. Imorgon är det 10 år. All den positiva återkoppling jag fick när jag klev ner från scen gjorde skillnaden.

@… That’s what I do, but I also see the problem in hybrid work meetings in conference rooms. Definitely something I also recommend, but alas not everyone has multiple monitors.

The way people share their screens in online meetings has to be a critical security issue in many organisations. Inadvertently showing their calendar or email, or demoing other sensitive content while the screen is being recorded – I’ve seen it all. Many employees need a primer on how to share their screen in a safe and responsible way.

Spaning från arbetslivet: Nästan ingen använder whiteboards för att tänka längre. Pennorna i alla konferensrum är alltid uttorkade eller så finns det inga. Ofta sitter i stället någon med ett dokument öppet på en dator kopplad till projektorn och så skrivs det rakt in i det.

@… That is absolutely correct. My blood coagulation level needs to be within a certain range to reduce risks of blood clots. I actually like talking about this, as I know there's always someone out there with similar or adjacent experiences who can benefit.

In other news, today was my first day learning to use a microINR device, intended to monitor my blood anticoagulation levels. The INR, or International Normalized Ratio, is a measure of how long it takes your blood to clot.

So basically this is what I do:

1. Wash my hands, make sure they’re warm and dry.
2. Take a chip (or test strip) and insert it into the device.
3. The device powers on and I wait until it is ready (it has to heat up to a certain temperature)
