It’s kinda silly, but I enjoy pressing “accept all cookies” and then proceeding to wipe every cookie before I load the next site. In one browser I simply reject all cookies, which is kind of hilarious, because it makes sites seem like they have amnesia. “Hey there. Want a cookie? Most of the responses seem to be for coders.
I hope I won’t ever need to do another sysadmin interview but I wonder how silly it would be to have someone using a LLM to respond.
I ask wildly open questions because I don’t care as much about what they know as I do about how they think. Come back with what reads/sounds like LLM output and I don’t care where it came from or even if it’s technically correct.

Really silly dream
I had a really silly #dream recently. I dreamt that my CFL broke. Or more specifically, it kept trying to turn out, successive parts of it were lighting up, then it all went off and tried again. And it looked like it had a bunch of cuts across it, and around these cuts little thunder sparks started appearing, like some kind of STALKER-like anomaly.
I finally flipped the switch, but the anomaly remained, and I wanted to get rid of it in case the sparks could jump onto my hardware and damage something. So I threw a metal bowl towards it, supposing the thunder would jump onto it. While it was flying near the anomaly, it slowed down and started turning back like a boomerang. On top of that, pieces of cat food (don't ask me why I threw a full bowl) were getting out of it and staying in the air levitating. When the bowl reached the floor and started turning again, Mr Ek came close to it and started levitating himself; he was sitting a few centimeters above the floor.
In the middle of all this, I've figured out I should record it. I took a bunch of photos with my phone, before I managed to switch to recording video.
Once I've recorded the fascinating flying bowls and levitating cat food, I needed to go back to discharging the thing. I threw a second metal bowl, and that one started levitating as well. I've figured out that's stupid, and I've found some big ass hammer with a metal end and a wooden handle. I held the end near the lamp to charge it, then tried to find something to discharge it to. I've tried some small stuff like the door handle, but obviously that wasn't sufficient. Finally, I've figured out to use the electricity box, since it is grounded. I held the hammer to it, watching sparks light the semi-darkness; I've recorded that as well.
And that's how much of it I remember.

My youngest tends to wear a Casio LA-20WH most of the time. When I bought it for them it cost me around $25. Recently they broke the strap. So I looked at the options. An official Casio strap for a LA-20WH costs around $16. With tax/shipping I am likely to pay around $20, which feels … kinda silly, given the price of a new watch.

Day 27: Kate Beaton
I missed a day yesterday, but I noticed earlier that I had gotten ahead somewhere early on, so I'm gonna leave it and not post a catch-up.
Beaton is an absolute legend in the webcomic space for "Hark! A Vagrant!" which is full of extremely silly literary and historical short comics. However, I've also read her graphic autobiography "Ducks" which deals with her time working in the Alberta oilfields to pay off her college loans and gets into some serious stuff (CW: sexual assault). I love her lighthearted art style, and she's great at comedic delivery, letting me laugh at her comics even when I don't 100% get the literary or historical referent.

It's been a week since I watched this episode, and I still giggle at this scene about once per day.
[I read a lot of Mad Magazine in my youth.]

A superhero in a silly costume (named Peacemaker, from the TV show by the same name) stands in front of what looks to be a 4th grade classroom filled with a dozen kid sitting at typical public school desks. He has on a shiny helmet, and is very strong looking; the character is played by ex-wrestler John Cena.

Peacemaker is asking the kids, "Any more questions?"
Same scene, but basically the next frame; about a third of the kids in the classroom have their arms raised up.
Same scene. This time Peacemaker has his arm out, pointing at one of the kids in the front row with her hand up. He's saying "Yeah, uh, gender-swapped Alfred E. Neuman."
Zoomed in on one of the kids in the classroom with her her raised up that Peacemaker had just called on. She's got red hair with bangs, freckles, a red shirt with a lightning bolt logo (I think DC's The Flash?), and a smile on her face showing a gap in her two front teeth. The subtitle still shows "Yeah, uh.. gender-swapped Alfred E Neuman."

AITA for organizing a "hoe union" of girls in my college?

Ok I know this sounds silly as hell but it's seriously got some people angry with me.

I'm in a college organization that is also big on partying.

It can be fun but sadly it can also be risky, most of my friends and I have had bad experiences.

And kinda as a joke I said to my friends that we should unionize. But they were 100% in on the idea. And we started a "hoe union"

And we also told other girls at the party about why we were leaving and where, and often had lots more girls leave with us. The group chat grew from us 7 to 36, pretty much every girl in our social sphere was in it or knew of it

With all of us sharing info, we all ended up going to parties that were much more chill.

It wasn't strict or anything, like if someone in the group said we were leaving, it didn't mean anyone was forced to go. But most everyone would anyway because when practically ev…
She said it wasn't a friend group, she was aware we'd called it a "hoe union" and had "rules"

I said that it literally is made up of friends. And there aren't any enforced "rules" it's all voluntary.

I then got frustrated and asked why she thought it was appropriate to involve herself in private conversation that happened outside of school and campus, and left.

AITA for making that group chat?

2/2 Reflection on #citizenship:
I do not treat the concept of “#democracy" lightly. I was born into the aftermath of centuries of totalitarian oppression that ended suddenly, leaving the nascent Ukrainian state of the late 90s and early 2000s floundering in the turbulent whirlpool of hopes and fears felt by millions of people who were finally allowed to ponder: how to build a free democratic state in the place of Soviet and imperial ruins?
I was taught the words "democracy", "citizen", "freedom", "voting", “liberty" (and more) by people who, less than two decades prior, weren't allowed to leave the borders of their country. I was told about self-determination by people whose political choices were ridiculed, punished, and eviscerated form most of their lives. The duty of governing ourselves felt to us ephemeral - a nice fantasy, akin to a fairytale or a utopia from fictional works.
And then I saw those same people fight with their bodies and souls once the previously unfathomable democracy was threatened. Protests in 2004, then again in 2014, then the unthinkable war against foreign invasion in 2022. Democracy no longer felt abstract or silly. It became as tangible as saying "I love you".
I write of Ukraine as I reflect on becoming a citizen of another country because the history and values of my adopted United States feel as real as the skin on my legs, the significance of its legacy lays as heavy as the weight of my waist-long hair, and the desire to uphold the freedoms of its Constitution burns my throat as harshly as dehydration after a long day in the sun.
People have asked me why I even want to join this country, when the present moment is shrouded in impenetrable darkness. And I answer: because I've felt the warmth of a newly lit fire of freedom breaking through shadows that for centuries looked like solid walls. I have seen kindness, and solidarity heal the fear and hate of oppression. I've seen liberty emerge from nothing but the human soul.
I am not a religious person, but I have faith. Faith in the ideals at the foundation of the American project. Faint but powerful recognition that "we the people" now includes me.
I love #America. And I hope to keep loving my home for the rest of my life.

Two figures appear to be in costume for a science fiction production. The only drama I want in live involves cats

Attack: 100%
Damage: 0%
Drama: 101%

Slow motion video to dramatic music of an orange cat jumping out to "surprise" a white cat. Orange cat makes itself bigger (arches back) mid jump while the white kitty just plops down on its back in response. Such silly kitties.

Ask your vet if cat extensions are right for you.

Photo of a fluffy, longhaired cat peeking out a back door window, except because the kitty had a recent vet visit that required a belly trim, the cat looks quite silly. Fluff on both ends, skinny belly in the middle

When the Lisa team was pushing to finalize their software in 1982, project managers started requiring programmers to submit weekly forms reporting on the number of lines of code they had written. Bill Atkinson thought that was silly. For the week in which he had rewritten QuickDraw’s region calculation routines to be six times faster and 2000 lines shorter, he put “-2000″ on the form. After a few more weeks the managers stopped asking him to fill out the form.
