In a valiant attempt to keep the world at bay, I have been doing another playthrough of Mass Effect. This time, it was misbehaving in various ways in the Citadel DLC. I restarted after it froze, which unblocked things but now if I invited person A for a hangout, person B would show up. Odd things like that.
It gets better.
During the party, after talking upstairs to the group including Traynor, I walked into the bedroom where Traynor was also standing, stock-still, unresponsive, in her underwear, even though a responsive Traynor was still on the couch nearby.
In the morning, waking up (next to Garrus of course), unresponsive Traynor was still standing in the bedroom. I hope this is a first in ME history, a sort of threesome or at least voyeur party.

Dear old Violet.
She'll be turning 13 in October, so she's kind of on borrowed time for a greyhound. She seems to have lost most of her vision now and is underweight, though her appetite is still huge and she still loves her walks.
She was once a terror for the local cats and squirrels but now if they remain still she doesn't spot them. She still sniffs every place that she remembers them to have been.

A photo of the front half of a tall but skinny black greyhound girl standing left to right turned to face off to the right hand side of the camera. She is black with a very greyed face. She wears a black harness with purple edging. She's standing in a field of mown grass.
A close up side on photo of the head and shoulders of a large black greyhound girl with a very greying face. She is crowding in towards a human who is opening a packet of cooked meat, her eyes upturned to the snack with her jaws open and tongue licking out of the near side of her jaw.
A head on photo of the front three quarters of a tall but skinny black greyhound girl with a very greying face, pushing her snout eagerly into the hands of a human (seen only from the waist down) who is opening a packet of cooked meat. Her eyes are focused intently on the snack.
A head on photo of the front half of a tall but skinny black greyhound girl who is stretching herself up at full height to press her snout into a plastic tub held near by a human. Her eyes are wide gazing at the contents of the tub. A small section of pink meat can be seen poking over the edge of the tub.

Calamus 44 Here my last words
In which the poet outs himself through talking about his poetry.
It's a short piece of Whitman talking about his own writing. But he's so twisted up!
Here I shade down and hide my thoughts—I do not expose them,
And yet they expose me more than all my other poems.
I read this as him talking about Calamus, the cluster of gay poems. And directly telling us that he's censored and hidden what he really wants to say. And yet still these poems still expose his true self. It makes me feel sad for Whitman, imagine his writing if he felt less fettered.
Still, he published some of the most clear gay poems of the 19th century. And got famous and mainstream doing it.

Went to Small World Festival. Mostly dry and occasionally sunny.
Small World has such a nice friendly hippy vibe, lots of deadlocks and goths and pirates and beautiful face paints.
Bands all energetic and talented and mostly have been playing here together for 20 years in one form or another. All of 'em doing it for the love of it. Pony doing a great job of organizing the team to put it together.
One dude seemed pretty new, making up synth songs with his repeats and beeps and rapping from audience suggestions. Failed to photograph him well though. There's another 4 bands mentioned in the photo descriptions here.
Medically necessitated more or less total sobriety at the moment, so different whole thing. Those I knew well there mostly working, so lots of time alone dancing soberly and reading. Wish I was better at talking to strangers.
Still good times.

I find this map especially amusing in that in 1893, 238 colonists departed Australia (purportedly nonexistent) to found the New Australia colony in Paraguay (ditto).
Of course, Australia didn’t federate till 1901, so it could be argued that Australia didn’t *actually* exist at the time. And given Paraguay’s tremendous (but still hotly contested) losses in the 1864-70 Paraguayan War, the latter country was itself hanging on by a thread.

Yes, I am a very political person. And that's why the unbelievable has happened in the last few days: as an old Linux and Unix user since the 1980s, I've switched from Fedora to Linux Mint... (and I'm still using FreeBSD too)
Technically a step backwards, as Fedora is far more up-to-date and modern, but politically and morally a step forward. Why?
Here in Europe, since the fascist, racist, narcissist, uneducated primitive moron and would-be dictator Trump became presi…

In Windows 11's Kernel32.dll (well, KernelBase.dll) the check for "twain_32.dll" is still there. I wonder when it was the first time that thing was put there.

Decompilation of the function LoadLibraryA from Windows 11 Kernelbase.dll showing that it still has a patch to properly load the library "twain_32.dll".

The decompiled code shown is this:

Interesting that while Abundant SF's head is taking shots at Zohran, Abundance New York endorsed him.
(Fifth, but they still favored him over Cuomo. They said "Zohran Mamdani is more likely to prioritize the central crises facing New Yorkers.")

Todd David, the political director of Abundant SF who helped elect moderates to the San Francisco Democratic Party, said New York could be in for a bumpy ride.

"If Mamdani ultimately becomes the mayor, I do think New York is going to struggle," David said. "It's very hard to govern urban centers from the left. New York could really struggle with its business community, and public safety would probably take a hit."

2. Brad Lander
3. Adrienne Adams

Infoseepage@mastodon.social - Today I walked into Perth and visited the Scottish Geographic Society's digs in the Fair Maid's House.  It was, in its heyday, a sort of Scottish adventurers club. They've got an interesting reference library and an overstuffed map room. Ernest Shackleton was briefly secretary of the society and they have some of his stuff on display.

I have no idea why I’m sleeping 5 hours a night recently, but for some reason, I actually do still have energy.
I hesitate to put it down to a cocktail of vitamin tablets I’ve been taking before bed, but perhaps they really are that effective?
(And to the people who recommended me Due and TickTick as habit-tracking apps, I really appreciate it; I’m trialling both and they’re very good.)

A friend of mine last night told me about how his lover died of AIDS in 1994. And before he died, he had a port installed to more easily administer medication directly to his heart. Another friend also had a port installed in 1994 for AIDS treatment. That friend survived another year until the antiretrovirals became available and he is still alive today. My friend's partner died.

The court’s conservative majority cast aside the longstanding rule that said Medicaid patients may obtain medical care from any qualified provider.

I've spent the day in my Slackware bubble; on this computer the latest hyprland with nwg-shell.
Of course all runs well; had some great hints and my dots were still available on my Codeberg.
Only one real challenge: installing all of the Rust stack (and that involves a ton of dependencies).
Not bcs I'm a dev, but because I want eza and have a go at wezterm 😆 !
As you know, you'll have to install those separately and by yourself on Slackware. Keeps our garden nicely walled 😜

Even experimenting with Mistral, one of their AI offerings. Still have Yokoffing's user.js installed though.
Firefox still deserves our support.
