If your protest is 90% "peaceful," they'll take pictures of the 10% that isn't. If it's 99% peaceful, they'll shoot rubber bullets and teargas until someone throws a brick and take 100 pictures from a dozen angles. If its 100% "peaceful" and no one can be provoked, they'll generate pictures with AI or photoshop like they did during the George Floyd uprising and the pictures from the CHOP/CHAZ. Migrated two utility VMs to LXC containers. It's cool and all, and pretty neat that I can literally dump the filesystem from the VM and start it almost unmodified as a container, but udev rules don't work inside LXC so I'm kinda shafted with one of them. 50% is still a passing grade these days, right?

Like other large #FreeSoftware projects, #Gentoo developers have varying degrees of activity. There are some people who dedicate a lot of their free time to Gentoo, maintain hundreds of packages, participate in multiple areas. Then, there are people with narrower interests, lower commit counts, but they are still putting an effort and making Gentoo a better distribution — and that matters. But then, there is the tail.
There is a few of developers whose main talents seem to be 1) finding packages that require absolutely minimal maintenance effort, and 2) justifying their developer status with long essays. I mean, this is getting beyond absurd. It is not just "my packages are all up-to-date". It is not even "my packages require very low maintenance, that's why I'm not doing much". It is literally "I deliberately choose low-maintenance packages, so I don't have to do anything". But of course, all these people definitely need commit access to Gentoo, and show off their Gentoo developer badges, and it's *so damn unfair*.
And in the meantime, other developers are overburdened, and getting burned out. And they step down from more things. And who takes these things over? Of course, not the developers who just admitted to not having much to do…

As I'm learning Dutch, I'm reminded that the idea that there are people who believe that the bible is to be taken literally. The idea that a several hundred year old translation of a collection of texts in multiple languages, that were themselves translated multiple times between languages, before the whole thing was translated to Latin, then being translated to English, could somehow perfectly reflect the original text... Yeah, it's only possible to believe that if you have no idea how languages work and have never learned another language.
Like, just from linguistic drift alone if the bible were written in King James English you're losing *so* much context. But Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek translated to Latin, then to English, then to English again?
There are so many things that erg can't be translated, even as a beginner. Dutch and English are two of the closest languages that exist, they're both Germanic languages and they're the closest to each other (other than Friesian). You can't really be much closer, and yet, there are so many things you can't mutually represent. Hebrew and Latin, Aramaic and Latin, Latin and English, Greek and English, these aren't even the same families at all... They're extremely distant. There's absolutely no way to represent concepts from one to another without another book's worth of explanation.
And that ignores all the cultural context, which is mostly lost and a library and decade of education to get the stuff that we *do* know.
Only monolingual Americans could come up with an idea so incredibly asinine.

Somehow we made this part of the Queensboro Bridge worse. This is a 3-4ft wide two-way bike lane.
