The liberal obsession with optics serves the right and persuades no one. There is literally an active ethnic cleansing happening in the US right now, and the only thing that matters is making that as hard as possible to carry out.
Anarchists destroying intelligence assets saves lives. Every escooter thrown at a cop car is one less escort for a goon too afraid to kidnap random brown people without being flanked by a branch full of bad apples. Spray paint is not violence. Vandalism is not violence. Community self defense in all forms is legitimate.
Make no mistake, these raids are about changing demographics. Demographic trends have been shifting blue for a long time, and the right has, for a long time, been blaming "white replacement." Conspiracy theory aside, Democrats have also been relying on the growth of black and brown voters as a block. The nuances of whiteness as an identity are lost on the current administration and their supporters. They see that "white people will be a minority by 2050" and equate that with the "end of Western Civilization."
The only way to "save Western Civilization" is to change those demographics. Forced birth and forced removal are two sides of the same white nationalist objective. Of course they can't have due process, because they need to be able to kidnap anyone who they see as a threat to their demographic future.
They don't care about optics. The plan is to murder away any threat and flood everyone else with propaganda. There is no mythical middle. There's no one unconvinced. They know this, but they win when democrats buy that myth and save the police the work of policing the protests.
If your protest is 90% "peaceful," they'll take pictures of the 10% that isn't. If it's 99% peaceful, they'll shoot rubber bullets and teargas until someone throws a brick and take 100 pictures from a dozen angles. If its 100% "peaceful" and no one can be provoked, they'll generate pictures with AI or photoshop like they did during the George Floyd uprising and the pictures from the CHOP/CHAZ. Do you have literally no memory?

The Internet IS a *set* of physical things that can be blown up by bombs.
However, where there used to be about a dozen places where you’d need to plant a substantial bomb to wreck the Internet, while now there are hundreds you’d need to hit simultaneously to affect most users. Like other large #FreeSoftware projects, #Gentoo developers have varying degrees of activity. There are some people who dedicate a lot of their free time to Gentoo, maintain hundreds of packages, participate in multiple areas. Then, there are people with narrower interests, lower commit counts, but they are still putting an effort and making Gentoo a better distribution — and that matters. But then, there is the tail.
There is a few of developers whose main talents seem to be 1) finding packages that require absolutely minimal maintenance effort, and 2) justifying their developer status with long essays. I mean, this is getting beyond absurd. It is not just "my packages are all up-to-date". It is not even "my packages require very low maintenance, that's why I'm not doing much". It is literally "I deliberately choose low-maintenance packages, so I don't have to do anything". But of course, all these people definitely need commit access to Gentoo, and show off their Gentoo developer badges, and it's *so damn unfair*.
And in the meantime, other developers are overburdened, and getting burned out. And they step down from more things. And who takes these things over? Of course, not the developers who just admitted to not having much to do…

Today, the full-moon day of the fourth month ("aashaada") of the #Hindu luni-solar calendar, is "guru poornimaa" in #India and elsewhere.
In #Sanskrit, "guru" is teacher; "poornimaa" is full moon (literally "state of fullness"). The day honors teachers. So, as they say, "shree gurubhyoh namah", or "salutation to the teacher". 🙏
#Trivia: This year's "guru poornimaa" falls on Thursday ("guru waasara"), the weekly day of teachers. There's more to the weekday name "guru waasara", but that's for a rainy day. 🌈

As I'm learning Dutch, I'm reminded that the idea that there are people who believe that the bible is to be taken literally. The idea that a several hundred year old translation of a collection of texts in multiple languages, that were themselves translated multiple times between languages, before the whole thing was translated to Latin, then being translated to English, could somehow perfectly reflect the original text... Yeah, it's only possible to believe that if you have no idea how languages work and have never learned another language.
Like, just from linguistic drift alone if the bible were written in King James English you're losing *so* much context. But Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek translated to Latin, then to English, then to English again?
There are so many things that erg can't be translated, even as a beginner. Dutch and English are two of the closest languages that exist, they're both Germanic languages and they're the closest to each other (other than Friesian). You can't really be much closer, and yet, there are so many things you can't mutually represent. Hebrew and Latin, Aramaic and Latin, Latin and English, Greek and English, these aren't even the same families at all... They're extremely distant. There's absolutely no way to represent concepts from one to another without another book's worth of explanation.
And that ignores all the cultural context, which is mostly lost and a library and decade of education to get the stuff that we *do* know.
Only monolingual Americans could come up with an idea so incredibly asinine.

You know that thing we hear from Americans all the time?
"If Bush gets elected again, I'm leaving the USA."
"If Obama doesn't win, I'm moving to Canada."
"If Trump wins, I need an exit plan."
Well, this time it's actually happening. Not just words, but I personally know several people who are not just threatening to leave the United States, but they actually have a plan and are literally in the middle of packing and shipping…

One of the reasons I appreciate walking, biking, and public transit so much (aside from just being a more joyful/connected way to travel, and better for our environment) is because they starve so many absolutely awful billionaires/corporations/oligarchs of profit. Somehow we made this part of the Queensboro Bridge worse. This is a 3-4ft wide two-way bike lane. There's so much wrong with this, from the metal manhole cover taking up almost the entire width of the bike lane, to the MUTCD-violating usage of sharrows, to those shitty rumble strip/speed bump things THAT ARE LOOSE.
Wtaf! #bikeNYC

Sidewalk next to a roadway. On the left, a subway entrance. On the right, the roadway with large columns next to it (holding up an elevated subway). In the middle, the sidewalk is divided with delineator posts. The left side of the sidewalk is for marked for pedestrians, and the right side is marked for bikes (via sharrows, which is.. not what they fucking mean, NYC DOT assholes! Sharrows literally mean a shared lane BETWEEN CARS AND BIKES. The 2009 MUTCD states, "Shared Lane Markings shall not…
Further down the same sidewalk, viewed from the bike area. The left side no has a "sidewalk closed use pedestrian walkway" sign and some green walls, then the ped walkway, then the bike area, and then columns and then the roadway (with cars moving in it). The bikeway continues to narrow to 3-4ft wide, and there's a bike parked next to a column that further narrows the bikeway. Someone is biking just past it, to give you an idea of a 2.5ft wide cyclist just barely fitting (forget a cargo bike or…
