11,000 posts in ~3.25 years. That's 9.4 posts a day. Not as frequent as many, but more than most. Phanpy estimates 50% of my posts are "original". Plus 20% replies makes it 6.7 posts a day. Maybe I need cut down? 🤔
But with 30% of posts being boosts and 20% replies, half my posts are engaging others, which I think makes me "social". 😊
It seems programming, photography, and travel are my frequent (recent?) hashtags. Although I no longer post much tech stuff.

Personalization systems are actually the AI technology I have the most beef with: I don't think we've fully reckoned with the algorithmic manipulation of information they do. Suddenly the info sphere is not an object you can interrogate, but you become the object, and the infosphere around us is made into a mirror.
Weirdly, LLMs used well are actually _better_ about this because they're somewhat more able to be interrogated (though naive questioning is not probing so much why as one would hope). But the breadth of the corpus and the freedom we have to query within it are currently new capabilities. Not to say that some companies aren't well on their way to researching how to personalize that into a reflection again. Google must be stopped, and I trust OpenAI just as little. People's chats still end up adding quite a reflective lens on things, but the raw access is still there if we want to make use of it.

This reflection explores hypocrisy, deconstruction, and why churches often fight harder against marriage equality than poverty, hunger, or suffering.

Imaging of ultrasound specularity at cortical bone interfaces to detect unbalanced remodeling: A preliminary study

Abstract: The region near the interface between cortical bone and the medullary cavity (the endosteal surface) is of particular interest for the early detection of osteoporosis. This region is typically the first to exhibit signs of unbalanced remodeling (enlarged pores and increased surface roughness). In this study, we analyze ultrasound reflection at the endosteal surface to introduce a novel potential biomarker of cortical bone health based on specularity. Our hypothesis is that increased pore size and surface roughness enhance ultrasound scattering, thereby reducing specular reflection. We reconstruct maps of specularity by combining a signal processing technique initially designed to enhance specular reflectors in soft tissues with a beamforming technique that accounts for refraction at bone soft tissue interfaces. Specularity values (between 0 and 1) quantify the similarity between received signals and signals from an ideal specular reflector. Using numerical simulations and ex vivo measurements with a 2.5 MHz phased array we highlight a strong relationship between specularity and bone microstructure, as assessed by high-resolution micro-computed tomography. Among 12 regions of interest (ROI) in the femoral bone of three donors, 8 ROIs without large pores showed high specularity (>0.5) in over 50% of pixels, in contrast to 4 ROIs with signs of extensive remodeling. Both pore volume fraction and pore size were strongly associated with specularity. In simple linear regression analyses, each parameter individually explained 84% of the variability in specularity. These findings suggest that specularity reflects bone microstructure and may potentially serve as a sensitive marker for identifying cortical bone degradation near the endosteal surface.

Reducibility of spectral curves of finite Jacobi pencils

Abstract: We consider finite pencils of Jacobi matrices \[ J_n(w)=A wB, \] where $A$ is diagonal and $B$ is tridiagonal with zero diagonal. The spectral curve is the affine plane curve \[ \chi_n(\lambda,w)=\det(\lambda I J_n(w))=0 . \] The main question is to describe when this curve is reducible. We prove generic irreducibility for fixed pairwise distinct diagonal entries and discuss several elementary reducibility mechanisms. Besides disconnected Jacobi chains, constant eigenvalue branches, and reflection-symmetric components, one must also take into account reducibility caused by scalar diagonal blocks. We formulate a reducibility conjecture and record low-dimensional evidence and counterexamples to several overly optimistic classifications. A central point of the picture is a codimension-growth principle: apart from the cutting divisors $b_i=0$, genuinely connected primitive reducibility should move to higher and higher codimension as the size of the chain grows.

Vision-Language-Action Models Meet World Models: Embodied Agentic AI for Low-Altitude Wireless Networks

Abstract: Low-Altitude Wireless Networks (LAWNs), composed of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and other aerial platforms, provide integrated perception, communication, and computation services in low-altitude airspace. However, deploying large generative models in this domain faces three major challenges: 1) Limited embodied action mapping; 2) Inadequate physical environment modeling; 3) Insufficient closed-loop optimization. To address these challenges, this study proposes an Embodied Agentic UAV framework. Centered on a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model as the execution core, the framework establishes an end-to-end embodied decision-making pipeline from multimodal environmental perception to continuous control generation. In addition, a World Model (WM) is introduced to capture the coupling between UAV actions and environmental state evolution, thereby supporting environment prediction, policy verification, and dynamic optimization. Furthermore, memory and reflection mechanisms are incorporated to form an adaptive closed-loop optimization paradigm of decision, execution, evaluation, and update, thereby enhancing the system's autonomous decision-making capability and continual evolution ability in complex dynamic environments. Experimental results validate its effectiveness in enabling robust, predictive, and sustainable autonomous control in LAWNs.

LSR-Net: Long-Short-Range Operator Learning for Pattern Dynamics on Manifolds

Abstract: We propose the Long-Short-Range Neural Network (LSR-Net), an extensible operator-learning framework for predicting pattern dynamics on planar domains, spherical surfaces, and general manifolds. The method decomposes the forward evolution operator into a long-range component, represented by a compact Fourier multiplier constructed via the Sum-of-Exponentials (SOE) approximation, and a short-range component adapted to the underlying geometry and its intrinsic symmetries. For general manifolds represented by irregularly sampled point clouds, the long-range component is implemented by Gaussian gridding onto an auxiliary regular grid, where the Fourier multiplier is efficiently applied in k-space using FFT and the result is interpolated back to the original sample points. We evaluate LSR-Net on several benchmark systems, including the Allen-Cahn, Cahn-Hilliard, Schnakenberg, and Turing systems, over planar domains, spherical surfaces, and a blob-shaped manifold. Numerical results demonstrate that LSR-Net consistently achieves higher accuracy and improved stability compared with baseline operator-learning models. In particular, for Allen-Cahn dynamics on the sphere, the RMSE is reduced by approximately three orders of magnitude compared with the Spherical Fourier Neural Operator (SFNO). Rotation and reflection equivariance tests further confirm that the learned operator is consistent with these geometric transformations. These results indicate that LSR-Net provides an effective and robust approach for learning pattern dynamics on complex geometries.
