but if he succeeds in taking control of the machinery of elections,
it could be a fatal blow.
That’s why a barely noticed story in The New York Times last week was so worrisome.

:tardis:

Nice gimmick with the shop window animating the stories as they're told, and it liking the simple story of Belinda saving a single life.
Not really clear if the Barber here is a story writer or a story collector. He seems to want credit as though he wrote them but also to not have a name to credit them to, and to have weaved some kinda story collecting machine. He surely can't take credit for all human stories? It was a beautiful machine: a story tree that's also a brain with a heart in it.
I find myself sympathetic with the aims of this barber anyway. Yes, do kill all the gods. Great plan! Lets do it.
I play this song from Julian Cope, Psychedelic Odin, in which he swears to undertake a holy task set by a group of River Nixes: Kill all the gods for us, oh do it well.
So I like a story teller killing gods, I don't really want his plans thwarted! Join him Doctor! Kill al
l the gods!
Beautiful big space spider, weaving all the stories into it's web. Not sure why it's there though. Seems like just outer-space with no spider would have done,
Always like the callbacks with all the prior doctor's faces too. His story is truely one of the most epic. Only Coronation Street has him beat for length 😆

I love how smart these AI technologies are. They understand that "bigger" for cities can be ambiguous, refer to either the population or the area. It's also great that it's showing the sources in the upper corner, and displaying the basic facts.
Small minus on consistency and correctness, but other than that, really a great answer.

Answer: Yes, Zurich is bigger than Stuttgart, both in terms of population and land area. Stuttgart has a population of around 632,000, while Zurich's population is around 434,000. Zurich's urban area is also larger, covering 91.88 square kilometers compared to Stuttgart's 207.35 square kilometers.

Toronto Star: “New numbers reveal 10,000-plus Ontario college layoffs, 600 programs cancelled or suspended over past year”
The bloodbath in our higher education system in Canada has gotten NO press even though provincial governments and likely federal KNOW. This is the first in depth article I have seen. ALL governments micro-manage university and college policy/finances, no matter what they might say to the contrary.
Here are some truths you need to know:
Yes, I am biased as a 25 year employee of a University.
Yes, my University has also had completely unprecedented cuts in the past 12-24 months, with more coming.
Yes, it is because of the loss of International Students and their tuition revenue. Without that loss, many domestic enrollment numbers have actually been growing, but the money per student is orders of magnitude less. (ie. International was a cash cow)
Yes, faculty and even many admin, have been warning about the government downloading funding onto International tuitions for decades.
Yes, government will claim they are “investing more than ever”, but this is usually about Capital expenses (buildings, residences, infrastructure) or meeting contractual increases for staff salaries, *not* operating expenses.
Yes, in BC in the 1980s 80-90% of a University or College operating budget was covered by “base funding” from the province. Now, it is often below 50%. (If this makes you ask… is it still a “public University system”, please do!!)
And finally, yes, if we want to consider ourselves a modern country, we cannot possibly think this kind of contraction in educational opportunity (while domestic tuitions continue to increase!) is at all healthy for our society as a whole.

I had no idea I had so much in common with Roy Wood Jr.
He's got that primal fear soundtrack in his mind, on repeat, sayin', "I ain't ever going back. Never gonna stop. Never going back."

SOOLIN: Yes. Not too easy, at this range.
TARRANT: Yeah, well don't lose him. We need to get a precise fix on Egrorian's base.
DAYNA: Why? You think we might have to drop in on him?

Claude 3.7 describes the image as: "This image shows a scene set in what appears to be a futuristic or sci-fi environment with metallic walls and technical equipment. Two people are examining or working with a large mechanical structure that has a ribbed or segmented design. One person with blonde hair is leaning over the structure while another person in a gray uniform-like outfit with a belt is standing and handling part of the mechanism.

The setting has the distinctive retro sci-fi aestheti…

Blake: I am a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant with salt and pepper and ketchup guy.

Fitzsimmons: Ketchup?

Blake: Y’all are judging me. Don’t judge. It’s delicious. We had this whole back and forth — if I’m just chilling, I put it on a cinnamon raisin. Even the team was like, that’s a lot on a cinnamon raisin. I was like, yes it is, but it’s delicious, too. Let me rock.

HyperCard was magnificent. Still is.
The HyperTalk language was cool — but even cooler IMO was the way the dev environment mixed code with direct manipulation of the UI. There are lots of problems with that approach for generalized Ui development, yes, but the experience of it was magical.
Unity and the like have a similar editor structure — edit UI objects, attach code to them — but the feeling is totally different somehow.

@… Yes, so much yes.
I have started using “a checklist / comparison table where none was necessary” as an LLM heuristic now, because there are so many terrible articles (many written before mainstream LLMs were released) which use a checklist as a replacement for any actual content, and now the machines have been trained to regurgitate them.

I just had to buy a load of T-rails. Those are steel - yes, steel as in "tariff on". Fortunately I seem to have obtained a price that has not yet been raised.
(I recently needed to buy a replacement car and got clobbered by FFOTUS's initial mad-tariff announcement; I am figuring that I ended up paying between $10K and $20k more than I would have pre-FFOTUS going off his meds.)

The background is blurred but suggests an indoor setting with warm, muted tones. The lighting and film quality have a distinctive vintage television production style that was common in British sci-fi programs from the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Divya and Shantini have vetted that yes, these are real people in real crisis who need help.
The two of them aren’t professional fundraisers or anything. They’re just doing their best with the tools they have, trying desperately to help a few people.
Yes, I wish that we had proper organizations — NGOs, international aid, a functioning democracy! — to help •all• the people in need all at once. We don’t. Elbow grease is all we’ve got.

A good counter-explanation from @…, although it’s not entirely consistent with the data: if this were merely aging vehicles, we’d expect to see a slow, steady decline. But we don’t; we see a •very• sharp turnaround that coincides precisely with Musk’s fascism entering full public view, and not with any sort of sudden aging event in the vehicles.
But yes, surely normal depreciation is a contributing factor as well.
