Under Randy Clarke, WMATA has cut the end-to-end travel time on the Metro Red Line by 8 minutes. This is a 68 minute trip, so it's a gain in efficiency of over 10% on top of faster trips for riders.
This is a combination of automated train operation (with doors closing sooner), raising the speed limit back to the original design of 75 mph, and I imagine other fixes.

Dear Computer History people: I'm searching for books covering the history of the MIT Media Lab.The only one I found so far is "The Media Lab" by Stewart Brand, released in 1988. So a bit dated. One of the houses a few doors away has got a young person living there who seems to have bought himself a two-stroke motorbike with not much of an exhaust pipe.

Welp, that’s a first: I had to actually break the glass in case of fire.
This evening, I used a fire extinguisher on a brush fire that had started near a house just three doors down from our beach rental. The owners weren’t home, and if it hadn’t been stopped, it easily could’ve taken the house with it.
Neighbors came running, the kids were thrilled by the whole thing, and I’m still kind of buzzing.

Take the right seat on the train, and you have two jobs already:
1. Telling people that the toilet is occupied, because the lock isn't reliable.
2. Telling people that exterior doors are broken, because they don't see the warning pasted on the door.
