the nice thing about Linux is that all your configuration is in a folder. just copy that folder over to your new system if you fuck something up and boom :P
Let's try the #macOS Tahoe Shortcuts automation for folder automation.
The attempt failed sooner than even the most pessimists of us would've thought. The error? "The folder exceed the maximum allowed size" WHAT????

Checking out SwiftGodot here! It’s cool! The tutorial has us copying the dylib manually from SwiftPM’s .build folder into the Godot project. Does this mean that we’d need to copy it every time we update the Swift code? Is there some build config step I’m missing?

100% certain that "Egyptian Literature" is what the creator of that video called his porn folder
I have a folder on my computer called "1-7-2026 ice murder number 1" and put some videos of events there to save them in case they vanish from online.
Why number 1? Because it was afternoon and there was no way to tell how many they'd commit before the day was done.

WHY IS THERE AN ENTIRE COPY OF VOTV 0.8 IN MY DOCUMENTS FOLDER. NO FUCKING WONDER IT'S 11 GIGS
This morning I have promoted a story, Wisdom, from my 'ideas' folder to my 'projects' folder.
"If I were to go, and were to give them sound advice, they would surely kill me. As they killed my great grandmother, and my grandmother, and my aunt, and now my mother."
A young woman is hereditary Wisdom Keeper of a warrior tribe; she's been sent away as a child, by her mother, for safety. Now, the God sends her back.
But is it wise?

Q: I run Ubuntu 25.10 and use filen.io to mount a cloud service to sync files between computers (limited to a specific folder). But it doesn't work to autostart it as it is out of sandbox - is there any way to go around that limitation? It has worked before and I trus filen.io so I have no issues to use some kind of fix to cirkumvent the settings for that specific app. #linux
i find it extremely annoying that MacOS 26 screwed up folder icon caching. (2023 M3 iMac w/ 24 GB of RAM and no memory pressure)
this happens not every time but multiple times a day

there’s just an entire smaller steamos install inside of my user folder. sure why not at this point
I've had it with Windows and ascended to the sunlit uplands of Linux, where the trees heave with open-source fruits and men with large beards grep things

Dear #Apple I am starting to really get pissed of f at your random actions on how you are dealing with our data. I DONT want my stuff on iCloud unless I specifically move a folder there. Stop hi hacking our data

#rstats osrm.backend 0.2 is out.
I fixed a bug that might have caused lockup if you tried to calculate too large origin-destination matrices. Should work just fine now! (though there is a limit of course, as it works over REST API, but parallel requests are your friend).

I hate #Microsoft #Sharepoint with the fire of a thousand suns.
Have a folder with bunch of files all with the same filename but different extensions? Too fucking bad, good luck searching for `<filename>` and then picking the right (extension) cause we don't SHOW YOU THAT. Fuck you (L)user!
One thing that is a pain about dropbox on ubuntu is if you are re-setting up dropbox you can't point it at an existing folder that was previously downloaded. you need to re-download everything, which is a bit silly.
I applied the three finger salute to the two pieces of software that is not responsive after two hours. We used to have semi-decent software, but lately the piss-poor upgrades and AI SLOP has infected the "productivity" software. I could update 5 documents, generate PDF for each and rebuild the release folder index in one day or a day and a half if the VPN was slow. All I got done (day 2 of frustration) was three of the smallest documents, on the midsize document it choked and I…
If you're trying to play Mewgenics via #CrossOver on #macOS in #Steam and you get crackling audio, exit the game and Steam and then launch Wine Configuration and add the Mewgenics exe in your Steam app folder to the "Applications" tab and set the compatibility level to (yes) "Windows XP"
Can confirm this worked for me - adding this tidbit to my workarounds knowledge

Not off to a great start this year: wasted 300g of filament and 9 hours of print time because the designer of a model created two different versions with a 5 mm difference in size and just put all the files in one folder without clearly labeling them. And since I had to print them in batches and didn't realize the slight size difference I now have a bunch of parts that do not fit together and I'm out of that particular filament (which is apparently also no longer produced). 😒
Updating the list of CLI apps I use regularly:
- castero: client for listening to podcasts.
- calcurse: personal calendar compatible with CalDAV servers.
- kew: music player.
- micro: text editor.
- toot: Mastodon client.
- newsboat: feed reader.
- w3m: web browser (and newsboat add-on, in my case).
- bat: like cat, but cooler.
- exa: like ls, but cooler.
- ncdu: tool for analyzing folder space usage.
- atool: tool for managing compress…

Check my e-service folder. There it is, conveniently sorted by my rule.

Been deleting a bunch of games off the Switch just because it's a pain to scroll through them, really, and if I don't use em, I want em off there. I don't even use the folder groups I made on there. The less games the better, really. Also helps with choice fatigue or chaos or whatever.

It's possible that some of the conflicts are our own fault: it's easier to make mistakes in svn's model where you create a branch by copying into a folder and can operate on subfolders. Git is simpler in that way: you have a working copy and commands to switch branches. But I blame svn's merge metadata tracking being less robust that git…
@… Strange! I usually see the opposite - I try to move an app icon to a new position, and it creates a new folder with the app in the new chosen position.
PSA: If you've been using a credit or debit card to pay your DTE bill, check your email/spam folder for a message. You'll be taken off autopay next month and will have to manually opt back in before they start charging the new credit processing fee
A little work done on my web browser. I'm working on bookmarks, and instead of storing them in a text file like I originally planned I'm going to try out storing them in an sqlite database. Some of that infrastructure is in place. Bookmarks are going to be tag based rather than in folders, so you can tag a bookmark with multiple categories and it will show up in all of them. I think that's a better way of organizing them than the traditional folder view.

Okay, a 64 GB /var/cache folder is too much. It's time to purge.

If, in computer science (e.g. in a database) you need to create a many-to-many-relationship where the hierarchical order is important, there is ONLY one game in town: Parent-Child.

Since it looks like it might be a while until the Steam Machines are released, due to market bullshit around AI malinvestment and the subsequent price of RAM, I gave up waiting and Installed Jellyfin on a temporary machine.
Jellyfin is pretty nice. I like the sync-play feature so the machines in the kitchen and bedroom and studio can all be playing the same thing. Walking between rooms and detecting which is slightly ahead, makes me smile. Watching a TV show as I cook and being able to wonder around the flat viewing uninterupted.
A bit flakey with video though. Sync failure means they all pause sometimes. Might just be the wifi signal strength I guess.
Ripped all the old archive folders of DVDs and CDs. DVDs have a quite high failure rate after fifteen years in a cupboard eh? CDs faired better.
Expect I'll buy charity shop DVDs more now. Though also expecting half of 'em won't work.
I'm listening to music a bit more now I have a one button shuffle that triggers everywhere in the flat.
I set up a ytdl-sub to copy a few youtube playlists into the TV shows folders. Keeping like the last month's worth. Some shows, like the Dust sci-fi channel say, work really well as being part of the synced TV system instead.
Also made it slurp up all my old youtube videos into a folder too, so yet another local copy of everything I made, in there with all the other ripped shows.
I have spent far too long this month fussing with directory structures and tweeking icon images and things to make it look all pretty. Enjoy that sort of thing though.

Reminder that iSH.app is a must-have for anyone trying to deal with large quantities of files in iOS. iOS is awful at dealing with large quantities (200 ) of files (or even a very large single file), using iSH for moving, transfering with rsync or even comrpressing them is a way better experience than trying to use Files App or any of the native stuff for this.
Just mount -t ios /mnt /mnt and choose the iCloud Drive folder you want to mount.
(Note that rsyncing the files and then compressing them in the destination will be way quicker than thew other way around due to the lack of JIT or actual virtualization, but either way iSH will be way better than Files App because it actually works instead of just failing, freezing and crashing all the time with no error message)
The iPad would be a really great device if they just let you unlock it and install an OS that actually works. My dream device for college would be an iPad with Apple Pencil but running postmarketOS or NixOS or something, plus Rnote or whatever for notes.
I might submit a PR to catask so it’s more friendly for running with immutable installation folder, but sleepy time now ![]()
Yeah, icloud-photos-downloaded worked well and is definitely the only way to do this initial upload. Re-enabled ADP now.
I’m now using only external libraries on immich, one for those and one for auto upload. For the auto upload, I’m trying using nextcloud to upload to an external folder that’s also imported on immich as an external library, let’s see if that works.
Nextcloud doesn’t seem to be actually removing the metadata from the videos, that was just a handful of old videos that seemingly lost their metadata when my father duplicated (maybe to take clips out of them? Idk) them.
