You've heard of James Joyce. You've heard of Samuel Beckett. You've heard of Carl Jung.
Have you heard of Lucia Joyce?
I had not, until this morning, when her life (and her FIFTY YEARS incarcerated in psychiatric institutions) was brought to my attention by an (of course) female friend.

I was watching a YouTube video this morning where somebody was talking about a coffee app where you (the user) search for roasters in your area that you like and it shows you nearby coffee shops that use that roaster. You can then get a list of coffee's that you can buy from that coffee shop. It also has a journaling aspect to help you figure out what your favorites are. I kind of liked that idea.

It's amusingly self-tagged "Relaxing" and I'm ... not sure about that? Like ... watch the trailer. You hear that background hum? That's the RAIN. The death from above. And it's in stereo and directional. The rain *hums*. It gets louder when you're in danger. And it kills. And it's coming down from above while you're trying to smash and accomplish goals. You get .... twitchy
For $5 tho? Totally great.

#PeerReview question:
If you, as the author of a research paper that has been peer-reviewed, could know who were the peer-reviewers, would you want to know?
If yes: why would you want to know? Would the name change how you interpret the review or how you behave towards the reviewer in future?

I think a lot of anarchists miss the utilitarian paths because we are blinded by ideology. Like, yeah, you can't really reform the government into being good. Government is bad as a thing.
But you absolutely can infiltrate and subvert the system in ways that produce positive outcomes. It's easy to miss the subtle difference.
There are also other strategies that become available when you don't just flat-out refuse to interact with the state. Like, you can use pincer strategies where you organize in the community and subvert in the government.
We can do more and be more creative.

Several of you have asked for something you can do to help Minneapolis. I have something concrete:
Here is a fundraiser for families at Seward Montessori, a Minneapolis public elementary school. Many families in the neighborhood are sheltering at home, and unable to work and/or get groceries. Parents at the school have organized this fundraiser to help out.

netpbm tools are a suite of tools to convert and fiddle with the ppm/pbm/pgm (collectively pnm) file formats, which are pretty much the simplest image formats on the planet, which even have an ASCII version; so if you have a simple script you want to generate simple images with they're a good choice of format, and if you have them, the pbm tools can convert to/from pretty much anything else or do simple scale/etc - lighter than ImageMagick say.

Things I have learned over the last two days consolidating all the VMs in the homelab to the same OS:

- Forgejo actions are also a pain in the ass.

Biased review now I've returned the library book: you don't learn much about Putin or his mentality; you do learn about defence ministers vs. generals & who has power; there's many lists with numbers of troops in various brigades & divisions; brief summaries of various wars which are helpful only in combination with Wikipedia; you don't learn much about the Russian or Ukrainian peoples' reaction to wars, aside from the occasional anecdote which rather centres the author
Had to expand C:\ on a VM and I'm irritated that Windows, after decades, STILL doesn't have the built-in tooling in disk management to work around their recovery partition. You can't extend a partition if the space isn't contiguous, so you have to move the recovery partition.
Why it exists at the end instead of the beginning also doesn't make sense to me. I'm sure there is a reason. 🤷
It can be easily done IF you know how to do it. This guide was perfect.…

Interesting fact:
Why do "vibe coders" put such a premium on stating how they don't even check the code or how it's all from the LLM? Like, if "AI" was just a tool, you'd be building all kinds of stuff but would you need to mostly talk about how you "built it just with AI"? It does at least hint at something weird going on here.

'systemd-analyze' is a useful if random tool that's part of systemd; it's actually got a whole bunch of different useful bits thrown in. The 'blame' , 'plot' and 'critical-chain' subcommands let you debug start up time. 'calendar' and 'timestamp' let you test if your format for a time/date is OK to use in a systemd file; 'verify' lets you check your systemd unit file for errors. There's loads more random bits.

Where do these activists get off having bullet absorbing bodies in the first place, what do they expect?
