This has been a really sad 48 hours in the US. Yes, it’s been building, and any given 48 hours of the last 9 months has been sad, but these last 48 in particular are just numbingly sad. Turns out flooding the zone works.

I am sad to be one of the Canadians who’ve chosen to avoid discretionary travel to the US, under the current government, that they’re talking about in this video.
As a comparison, here are my in-the-US discretionary spends for the first halves of 2023, 2024, 2025. This does not include air travel or accommodation. This is in-person spending on things like restaurants, gas, entertainment, parking, food.

Been playing Transiruby and the exploration poetics are top-notch, like rivalling Super Metroid good, which is a distinct rarity among metroidvanias.
Something the original Super Metroid had was required secrets and the expectation that you'd actually read the map as a gameplay skill. Many many metroidvanias don't have that, including favorites like Ori, but it's one of the things that makes Hollow Knight stand out. Transiruby sadly doesn't have maps-as-rewards, but it does have moments where consulting the map is expected (water cog is a big one since it's in the middle of an already-explored area by the time you can access it). The game also requires revisits with the coin door mechanic, but marks the things you need on the map and structures revisits really nicely with a variety of shortcuts that open up as you gain abilities.
I was kinda sad when the first movement power was double jump (le sigh) but the second movement power is really neat and original, so I'm happy again.
Besides the big things, there are a lot of little moments where there's ludonarrative harmony between the choice structures and the area themes/plot points.
Haven't finished it yet, but so far it's headed into my top tier of metroidvanias, or very close, even despite fairly simple combat and easy (if fun) bosses.

As a survivor of the type of stochastic terrorism that people like Charlie Kirk carry out, and also a survivor of gun violence, I've had a bit to think about.
I still understand the anger, the frustration, that leads someone to snap. I'll always have compassion, if also paired with some frustration, for the person who shot me and her husband. That makes sense to me. I refused to testify because it never made sense to punish a tool who acted out of ignorance.
What doesn't make as much sense to me are the upper class grifters, the stochastic terrorists, who turn a profit of off setting people like that up to kill. I always wanted to see people like that, people who were clearly profiting off of bringing evil into the world, held accountable.
But the way I always want to see them held accountable, is by being forced to live in a world where everyone is free. Charlie Kirk got out easy, and that is a bit sad. He should have had to suffer through our victory. He should have had to watch the fall of Western Civilization, the collapse of all the things he held dear, all the things he tried to uphold. I wish that he had lived long enough to understand the suffering he inflicted on the world. He should have lived long enough to have to do real work, to have to figure out how to feed himself, house himself, in a world that has no market for the hate that he brings.
As much as I had rather that he starved, I would never shed a tear for the opening of a new public urinal.
