Godot has a funky way of managing groups that a node belongs to.
I tried to simplify this. Rather than having this Group Manager, I decided I would just list all the groups in the scene and let the user toggle on/off.

Ended up having to design custom 3D printed brackets that attach to the plugs to create little trays for silicone to keep things together and stable and to provide grip and support for the silicone. Worked a charm but ugh such lengths to go to.

This Rolson magnifying visor thing works OK; it's got 1/1.5/2.0/2.5/3.5x interchangable lenses and a damn bright LED light. The 3.5x is enough for me able to see even really small pads (field of view is small of course, but that's neck swivelling with these); I can get a loupe to work with them as well to look at the state of a pad.
