Was removing some snails from the greenhouse. Opened skylight to fling them over the fence (into an uncultivated garden) and the window collapsed on my head! No injury as I was wearing a cap and the glass didn't break. Mortice joint had rotted through. Greenhouse was quite old when we arrived 40 years ago and I keep replacing bits.
Luckily I'd kept a partially rotten roof spar so was able to cut it down, using the sound part and joint it to fit.

Sometimes being optimistic or even fatalistic with a smile bites you in the bum.
Our regular garden and tree guy came to quote for trimming the leylandii coming over into our space, our own holly tree and taking out a conifer that had sown itself and grown on for years.
I had forgotten about pointing out the flat Cat 6 cable that's close to it but when I checked afterwards it was grazed and there was no signal.
The 50m cable is coming tomorrow to replace it.
End of the harvest season. Pulled the last of the tomatoes and peppers from our victory garden. I'm going to dehydrate about a kilogram of jalapeños and grind them into a powder.

'writing is more than just the process by which you obtain a piece of text, right? it's also about finding out what you wanted to say in the first place, and how you wanted to say it. this post existed in my head first as a thought, then it started to gel into words, and then i tried pulling those words out to arrange them in a way that (hopefully) gets my point across. ... i alone can get the thought out and writing is how i do that.'
Oh! The video games I played in October all begin with 'B':
The Biggleboss INCident; Blackwell Unbound; The Blackwell Convergence; The Blackwell Deception; Backpack Battles.
Yep, #pointandclick
I've started the last in the Blackwell series - I'm not finished yet. I know they're older, but maybe I'll write a review of the series when I'm done.
I also played #SteamNextFest Demos: Goblin Sushi (many hours' worth); Nighthawks; Atomic Age; Moon Garden Optimizer; Mystery of Silence; Servant of the Lake; Uncle Lee's Cookbook
There were 5 other demos I played, but I uninstalled them after 10 minutes' play - they weren't for me

Johannesburg is showing African cities how climate action gets done.
The city is racing toward net-zero by 2050 with bold moves: diverting 100% of garden waste from landfills by 2040, building micro-grids in informal settlements, and creating jobs while cutting emissions.
Their approach is becoming a model for scalable climate solutions across the continent.

Any sufficiently advanced disaster preparedness is indistinguishable from revolutionary dual power. This essay is a bit of a transition between the theory I've written earlier, and more concrete plans.
Even though I only touched on my life on the commune, it was hard not to write more. These are such weird spaces, with so much invisible opportunity. But they're also just so unique and special. For all the stress and uncertainty of making sure you stayed on Lorean's (the head priestess), there were also those long summer nights with the whole community (except the old lady) gathered around a fire, talking and drinking. There was almost a child-like play to the whole time.
There were so Fridays I'd come home with a couple of gallons of beer from the real world, folks would bring things from the garden, someone would grill a steak, everyone who didn't cook would clean up, and we'd just hang out and have fun. So many evenings I'd go over to Miles place with a guitar, or with his guitar, and we'd pass it around over a few beers, talking about philosophy, Star Wars, or some book or other. It's hard not to write about the strange magic of that space.
My partner and I bonded over similar experiences, mine on a weird little religious commune in California and theirs as a temporary worker at Omega Institute. Both had exploitation, people on weird power trips, frustrating dynamics, but also a strange magic and freedom. Both were sort of fantasy worlds, but places that let us see through this one, let us imagine something that something else is possible behind the veil.
There are many such veils.
Perhaps it's fitting that this is more meandering, as a good wander can help the transition between lots of hard thinking and lots of hard working.

Was hoping to get lots of things done this weekend. Preparing the garden for winter, messing around with some hardware, watching some movies … instead I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that the mild uveitis-sensation doesn’t blossom into the real deal while staying away from light. Sigh. It’s always on weekends when the local apothecary closes early.
THE PLAN:
Remove anything gold.
Recreate the art deco.
Clear out the "Walk of Fame".
Rebuild the rose garden.
Tear down the ballroom.
Restore the East Wing.
Rehire Federal layoffs.
Restore defunded institutions.
Repeal the Big Dumb Bill.
Pack the Supreme Court.
Fire anyone hired by him.
END PART 1.

Electrotech, not fossil fuels, will power the future
During a recent parliamentary committee meeting, Bloc Quebecois MP Patrick Bonin grilled Alberta Premier Danielle Smith about climate change. Her answers were evasive — although she conceded that the planet is warming. Bonin asked if she thought humans were the main factor in Earth’s recent heating. “I don't know the answer to that. I'm not a scientist,” she replied.

I try to protect my garden. Like many gardens there are vermin - such as rats - that damage, even destroy, the beauty and use of my garden.
I offer no excuses when I remove those vermin from my garden, usually by killing them.
I do have some sympathy for them should the traps not finish the job and they squeak in alarm as I approach to take their lives. But those squeaks do not deter me.
Our world, our nation, our neighborhoods are gardens. There are people who undermine …
Ironically, the bean plants that did the best were the vines the squirrels planted in the corner of the yard. The beans I planted in the garden were overrun with weeds. #gardenthoughts

You may (or may not) recall the #Freenode takeover mess. However, thanks to #IRC being an open and widely supported protocol, many projects migrated to #LiberaChat with as little disruption as possible.
Good news is, your walled garden is unlikely to suffer the fate of Freenode — because it already is there, from day one. What are you going to do when your project suddenly gets banned and you lose access to everything — including all the data that you shouldn't have kept there in the first place? Of course, come up with some corporate bullshit of "join us on our illustrious journey to the next walled garden, and don't forget to install another 200 MiB privacy nightmare app not to be excluded from our community".
