Three bipartite networks that make up the MovieLens 100K Dataset, a stable benchmark dataset of 100,000 ratings from 1000 users on 1700 movies. These data capture the tag-movie, user-movie, and user-tag networks. (Also available from MovieLens are 1M, 10M and 20M folksonomy datasets.).
This network has 24129 nodes and 95580 edges.

Put your name on your work and find like-minded people to share credit with. It is now on you to build not your brand, but the demonstration that you know what's going on.
It is going to be very hard to get a job by printing a list of skills at the top of your resume and hoping to get noticed. It already was and now it's worse than ever.
Be a person on the internet and by that I mean do not hide your person-hood. Your curiosity, your learning, your willingness to consider angles. Professional polish is something the clankers do better than us, because they are trained on all of us doing it.
If not putting your name on your learning, put a stable pseudonym out there. Be known by the work you do and even the mistakes you make and reconsider. Showing that your knowledge has _depth_ is now one of the most important things. We can all vibe up to a basic understanding. It's the people who can see where they went wrong, and course-correct that really are going to carry the day.

Don't take for granted that people are oracles who will tell you what's good or not. That ship sailed long ago with everyone wanting us to make them an app and make them rich while they gave us only ideas and expected us to do the work.
Instead you have to want to learn and show that you're doing it, and be willing to make messes and mistakes and own them. Because if you're just vibing, you won't get it.

But know that if you want to learn, people are willing to show you. You have to bring the will to learn because the temptation to skip learning will be everywhere. But if you're curious when the curmudgeonly old techie who's holding the system together says something surprising, ask them about it. We will tell you.
If you want to learn and you're not employed, I cannot state this enough, _build something_. Start with AI, that's fine, but _get under the hood_. Get your hands dirty. Understand what's going on. Your curiosity is the ONLY thing that will get you that experience now.

I have basically mildly positive feelings about Gemini Nano being available in Chrome. I don't use Chrome, but lots of stuff should be done on-device, not off. That's a win.
If "software shouldn't have features i don't like" is the argument you're actually making, that's not really a good argument. Even when the feature is an LLM model.
"Chrome is getting big and bloated and we can do better” is absolutely a good argument you can make.
And then the real kicker: Google pushing the web platform around through dominance is just the real ick here. It's the same sort of thing monopoly power enables. Companies that own verticals in the economy or a product market can dictate rather than negotiate. This is, in general, bad. Google does this, not because the ideas its employees put forward are good, but because they work out to be in Google's interests. And those interests can run counter to the rest of the world.
That's what we have to push back on.

Periodic reminder: When people actually _study_ social media, they come to realize that even the most so called "echo chamber" actually tends to be MORE diverse than the communities they'd otherwise inhabit.
The tribal, self-reinforcing social boundaries that reject new information are actually an artifact of _contextless exposure to people with different points of view_. And accelerated by hostility.
In short: echo chambers don't exist. Insularity is a response to disrupted community norm formation by slamming too many people together without context for each other. It's not the social media algorithms directly doing it. It's the social response to those algorithms.

Honestly, flooding mastodon with horrible-level and vitriolic anti-AI takes would be a good way to drive people toward AI acceptance. It won't work on everyone, but it'll capture influential, thoughtful people.

Seriously the theme of the next few years are going to be “you can check that, you know. Did you actually check?"
It's going to be tedious. It's going to be super annoying. And it's going to be a good part of what keeps us tethered to conversations that actually work with other people and don't turn into weird factions.

This. That said, this isn't an all/nothing thing. What Google has done to Search (and to be clear, not just AI overviews) is a travesty, the clearest enshittification. And LLM models are absolutely enabling this. But to say "LLM bad" is oversimplifying. On net they may be, but there's a lot of good uses. This, this is not one of them.
