Why would this be? Or perhaps, is there a prefered method to instantly blank all screens in XFCE-4? Not to lock, just to turn them off.

So, I've installed Ubuntu in her laptop and everything goes faster & smoother than before, and she has now a modern operating system in a perfectly working piece of hardware.

It's also not a difficult transition from Windows. I found Ubuntu to be not as satisfying. I've also tried Zorin, but prefer Mint, because it is more customizable, at least for me.

@grahamperrin@bsd.cafe @teledyn@mstdn.caso far, so amazingly good. the Dell 5290 has a close keyboard but with a nice haptic response and despite less RAM and similar bogomips to my old ZaReason, everything media has been smooth as glass in #Debian13 - never thought I would say so, but if you are new to pondering Linux for that machine that can't do Win11, for everyday use or science lab stuff unfettered by clouds, I wouldn't go near Ubuntu, you'll be just fine in Debian.
