Even though I only touched on my life on the commune, it was hard not to write more. These are such weird spaces, with so much invisible opportunity. But they're also just so unique and special. For all the stress and uncertainty of making sure you stayed on Lorean's (the head priestess), there were also those long summer nights with the whole community (except the old lady) gathered around a fire, talking and drinking. There was almost a child-like play to the whole time.
There were so Fridays I'd come home with a couple of gallons of beer from the real world, folks would bring things from the garden, someone would grill a steak, everyone who didn't cook would clean up, and we'd just hang out and have fun. So many evenings I'd go over to Miles place with a guitar, or with his guitar, and we'd pass it around over a few beers, talking about philosophy, Star Wars, or some book or other. It's hard not to write about the strange magic of that space.
My partner and I bonded over similar experiences, mine on a weird little religious commune in California and theirs as a temporary worker at Omega Institute. Both had exploitation, people on weird power trips, frustrating dynamics, but also a strange magic and freedom. Both were sort of fantasy worlds, but places that let us see through this one, let us imagine something that something else is possible behind the veil.
There are many such veils.

Maybe it's under the engine or something now and you have to put the thing on stilts to find it?

Asked my mechanic about it and he says to bring it in on Monday. Gonna be a pain if I have to rip up the floorboards or something every year to refill that.

CPU core of the PIC12F683 seen at poly.
This image is slightly out of focus in spots, I have a better 100x scan in the works, but we can see a couple of interesting things.
* At the south edge, we see a structure with what looks like 13-way symmetry then something weird looking at the far east. The instruction word is 14 bits so I'm guessing these are instruction latches with something special in the LSB or MSB position (I'll need to brush up on the PIC binary instruction…

The other day my wife and I were talking about Charli XCX, how she's so popular. My wife hadn't heard her stuff. I had, last year, when everyone was raving about it. It's very popular. No shade to her fans.
So for fun, a little later, I put on just the first couple minutes of Charli's 'Brat' (that I found to be unlistenable) and I was like, hey listen to this.

Second time in the past couple of days that I've joined a Teams call for work, hear the person leading the meeting go "We're still missing a few people let's give them a couple minutes", then silence.
And silence.
And 5 minutes later I get a text from someone asking where I am, and I'm like "still in the meeting waiting for people to join?"
But apparently the connection got borked after I joined and I got silently disconnected server side…

Added a zoom level to the Category page on the Exocortex-Log app. Can make the graphs look a lot cleaner now.
Looking back over the last 100 months here, we can see in general my social life is quite seasonal -- Festivals are a lot of social all weekend long and a couple of them in a month really bumps up the hours from my usual habit of sitting alone in a dark room pressing buttons.
The peak in 2019 is a summer filled with Glasto and Noisily and another festival or camping trip I don’t seem to have recorded the name of.
Then clearly visible is the drop-off in social activity as the COVID pandemic hit. Virtual-Social (IE zoom meetings and the like) picked up quite a bit around there but had died back to almost nothing way before the hours spent with actual people started to tick up.
Annoyingly, I have my biggest gap in data right on top of the pandemic there, where I failed to back up for months and then data became corrupted.
When the data-hole is over we see social life still not really returning until the middle of 2021 and not really getting back into stride until summer 2022.
It remains much lower now on average with lower peaks than before the pandemic too. Multiple reasons.
Work is pretty constant all the way though other than the data-hole. Dipping when I take time off for social mostly.
That data-hole is annoying. Back up your data kids.

Stumbled across this gem the other day, perfect for #MusicWomenWednesday. Condor44 was formed in 1999 by guitarist/vocalist Hiroshi Sasaki and drummer Nobuyuki Ajima who met while attending college. They put out a couple records in the early 2000s and are supposedly still together.. this is the excellent title track "db" from their 2002 record of same name.
