Partly bright and sunny, but fully cold and with generous amounts of wind. “Brisk” doesn’t even begin to do it justice. Still, I am a freak and love this weather. It felt good to be out moving. #TeamShorts of course.

I was lucky to get invited on a tour of the University of Coimbra (Portugal) on a recent trip - apparently the 14th oldest university in Europe (1290), and the highlight was definitely the Joanine Library (Biblioteca Joanina). Photography is not permitted in the main library but we were allowed to take snaps in the 19th century vault. A truly remarkable piece of design combining function with beautiful decoration.

So, we had we had the Chez Dallman Pecan Chicken Bok Choy again. I wanted to take my wife's picture, but she protested and said she never looks good under the glaring kitchen light. I pushed the settings button in the camera app and said wryly, "Ah, there it is: turning on 'Make My Wife Beautiful' mode!" And I pushed at the screen.
My wife cracked up. (I did too.) It worked. She likes the photo, or at least she doesn't hate it. I can't post it here, though…

When I was walking down from the mountains recently I noticed the frost on the trees and branches -- and some single leafs that were still around.
I really liked this extra touch of color in the grey surrounding. And that it's just a little detail on the huge mountain.

One more photo stop that we did after quite a rain pour in the #schwarzwald.
We came up this path when I turned around and saw the sun beams through the canopy. At first I was really stunned to be honest as I hardly *ever* see such scenes!
Strangely I took ways less photos than might have been appropriate, but those two I found worth sharing.

A tundra-like scene of (a section of) some enormous sloped boulders, smoothed and scraped off by thousands of years of glacial movement, now slowly overgrown by beautiful dry, orange grasses and small trees (larches), which are also slowly taking on their autumn colors. The rocks have a pinkish brown color with yellow/green lichens growing in some regions. The background is a uniform green-gray color, i.e. the color of the glacier lake with its milky water and some very, very faint reflections.

We’re checked into the Ferry St. Inn, in this stately old mansion, one of four tucked behind the DIA. We’re in the maid’s quarters, a third story walk up. We’ve stayed here before.
